Mckennie is going to be a solid player. Looks a lot more comfortable out there than the start of the season, as expected.

very confident in him being a solid bliga starter, very curious how much more his attacking game develops. raw material certainly intriguing

Wes is most comfortable in the attacking and defending ends. l think Tedesco's 3142 suits him the most, playing cmid next to another mid who is most comfortable in the middle third. No doubt all this talk of comfort has disqualified me for life from getting a job coaching soccer in Germany.

Who would have guessed 12 months ago that he’d seemingly be in the best situation of any Yank in Germany?

Not I. But enjoy watching Schalke more than Dortmund these days, and it’s not really close. Just a far more fun bunch to root for. Less talent. More tactics and guile and guts.

If Schalke were 10% less clearly excited about going home with BVB skin on their studs, I'd be a fan. They had way more guile, a plan, rhythm. They just like to bite ankles a tad too much. It's kinda dickish.

He better start on the weekend. Would be his 20th league app. Absolutely fantastic start to his career. If he can develop more in the final third, ohhh boy.

With Goretzka and Meyer set to leave Schalke, you would have to think that the competition for Wes is about to get very stiff. With Schalke looking likely to secure a CL spot, I think they are going to spend a little more money in the next window to secure a CL caliber player or two. I don't doubt that Wes is a quality Bundesliga player, but his job is definitely going to get harder.

I get the feeling Tedesco values Wes' ability to manufacture goals. He seems the closest they have to replacing Goretzka. they don't have anybody to replace Meyer imo. I'm not sold on Bentaleb but maybe I just saw him before he had enough reps.

That's what I'm thinking as well, but when he started talking about converting Wes into a CB I was scratching my head. Also, Wes has played rightback in his last couple games under some weird circumstances.

I'm starting to wonder what Tedesco has in store for Wes, but hope that he sees him as a replacement for Goretzka.

Odds are whomever Schalke buys this summer won’t be as good as Goretzka, so Mckennie should in theory have the leg up.

There are several levels between not as good as Leon and Weston.

Do you have a link for “starting talking about converting Wes onto a CB?” I don’t speak German, so haven’t read that if it’s true.

Oh, and he “played rightback in his last couple games???” Which games? He shifted to left back against Hamburg after Nastasic came out injured. Don’t remember him at right back vs Dortmund. Come on, man.

He has played a few of-necessity minutes at right back. Don't know how many or how often. As to the possible conversion to CB, see HERE.

Yes, he has. But not in the last couple of games.

I'd read that "article." Huge difference (to me) between Tedesco wanting to see him at CB in a friendly and "talking about converting Wes into a CB."

Not directed at you Imorin, but when I'm in a grumpy mood I can't let misinformation soil these hallowed grounds without responding.
