Has Rome (I'm sure he has, I just want to know) ever stated why he hates soccer? It seems he's just a typical American soccer-hater...it's 'gay,' boring, etc.
you know, he's actually right. Fifa rankings are probably the most flawed ranking system out there. We aren't top 10. This is hardly the worst thing I've ever read.
Hey guys, negative attention (which I think is mostly tongue in cheek) is better than NO attention. Can you imagine him or any other national talk show host mentioning this at any other time before now? I think that Romey is a closet soccer fan...I think he just likes to get our goat. If he truly hated soccer, he would NEVER mention the FIFA rankings, thats for sure.
I agree with dave what is amazing is that he even noticed it except for us completely phyco posters that gather here to debate things from team names to how the front office is going to attract more fans (things that dont concern any other fans but us) there is no coverage on it. REality US top 15 top 10 ............. we will meet, but not yet, not yet
Oh no. Jim Rome is one of the most intelligent American minds of his generation, if he doesn't like soccer it must be a lame sport.
The sad thing is that Rome is actually right here. We don't deserve to be #10 in the world and the FIFA world rankings are a crock. The only thing that can be said about the FIFA rankings is that at least it doesn't determine who the world champ is.

Um, what do the FIFA rankings mean anyway? Portugal was ranked fifth before the World Cup. As for Jim Rome, he's a moron. Since I don't like him, I don't watch him. Hell, Chicago doesn't even carry his radio show. If I watched him to critize him, that's only helping him in the ratings.
Just like in "Private Parts" ...when Howard's wife was a realtor and she was going around with the couple who were listening to his show (and were disgusted). She told them, "It's all just an act". Romey's just playing to his Joe Sixpack audience. He probably couldn't care less about soccer in real life. Come to think of it, I don't think anyone in the media truly HATES soccer, they just act like it to get people to listen/watch.
