Back in the day I was entertained by Marvelous Marv at Fenway when he was with the Orioles. He reinvented the 1st base position.
The defense is almost ready, distract with the AG report. “Barr is having advance meetings (including one on Wednesday with Senate Judiciary chair Lindsey Graham) so that talking points and presentations can be ready in advance of an official release. “ https://t.co/AZetQHrWRi— Mimi Rocah (@Mimirocah1) November 10, 2019
Glad that the start calling this what it is....Bribery. With the House set to begin public impeachment hearings against President Trump, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff told NPR he already sees several potential impeachable offenses Trump has committed, including bribery. Said Schiff: “Bribery, first of all, as the founders understood bribery, it was not as we understand it in law today. It was much broader. It connoted the breach of the public trust in a way where you’re offering official acts for some personal or political reason, not in the nation’s interest.” He added that to prove bribery you have to show that the president was “soliciting something of value,” which Schiff thinks multiple witnesses before his committee have testified to in private.
Good to hear. So far the D's are really managing this process very well. They have announced the list of hearings next week. Among them, Sondland, Vindland, Fiona Hill. It will be nonstop! “For those who continually ask, you should just expect that we will continue to make news every day. So don’t ask ‘what’s on tap?’ Just know something’s on tap.” — A House Democratic aide working on the impeachment inquiry, quoted by Time.
It seems Bolton gave a private speech where he intimated that Trump and his kids are selling out US foreign policy for personal benefit. I won't post the tweet under the new rules so you have to go get the info yourselves. But Maggie H has it.
Public Opinion keeps moving towards impeachment: Registered voters nationwide support impeaching @realDonaldTrump, 52-41%, per a new poll: https://t.co/9wnk1FXqzbIndependents support such a move by 20 points, 51-31%.Voters say 54-38% that Trump has committed a crime while in office, and 62-33% that he's abused his power.— Brandon (@Brand_Allen) November 12, 2019
Tweet thread that does a pretty good job of laying out the issues of the House solely focuses on the Ukraine bribery/extortion and ignores all the evidence in the Mueller report, and the clear violations of emoluments clause. It will be a colossal ******** up with serious long term consequences for the Dems to ignore these in the articles of impeachment. Which means that’s exactly what they will do. To recap, while I agree with @repadamschiff that the bribery case against Trump is the strongest because bribery is specifically mentioned in the Constitution as grounds for impeachment, there are other v. nearly equally strong counts that could be brought:— David Rothkopf (@djrothkopf) November 13, 2019
While I tend to agree with this, the obvious difference is the standard of proof for a political prosecution. As far as the Ukraine corrupt bribery/extortion goes, they have Trump "on tape" doing it. The whole thing is slam dunk. The other stuff is harder - though also clear. But I tend to wonder if the US media and public could cope.
I am pretty sure the "new rules" allow for a tweet after you write a sentence or two on why you are posting the tweet. Don't just spam, contribute to the conversation.
BTW, the last 5 or 6 posts, are giving me a sense of dejavu. I could swear we have been here before, I forget how did it all turn out.
Josh Marshall has an interesting perspective. First point is, look, Trump is guilty as sin. Slam dunk, no question. The Dems will prove that. The Dems’ abilities aren’t on trial. Trump isn’t really on trial, or at least, the trial is a formality, because the evidence of his guilt is overwhelming. Josh’s point is that it GOPers in Congress who are on trial. What are they willing to tolerate? It follows from that that the Dems’ job is to make the subtly different case of NOT, look what Trump did, but look at what your senator and your representative condone. I of course agree because it’s the same point I’ve been making which is that the real goal, the achievable goal, is to cause some GOPers to lose races in 2020 and 2022.
They probably could have coped if they had not spent the last 6 months doing nothing, and the last two months bragging (both Schiff and Pelosi) that they had resisted calls for impeachment since the Mueller report was released...but now...were serial guys! They’ve made clear that the activities clearly articulated by Mueller are not sufficient to impeach. Now the right is arguing that the Mueller investigation failed...now they switched to the Ukraine shit. It is not hard, at all, to tie them together.
He is a complete tool. Shocking the R's could not find someone with a minimum of brain to be their ranking member. ✔@emilycrockett Schiff is a pro and conducting himself with the gravitas appropriate to footage that will be in history reels decades from now. Nunes conducted himself like a guy suing a cow.
Correct to certain extent. But you forget that 6 months ago they didn't have the votes to start impeaching and that the end game is in the Republican Controlled Senate. Pelosi and Schiff are going to slow walk the process in their turf and they're going to sell the message to the MSM that Trump is incredibly inept, corrupt and criminal, and then pass the ball to the Senate with a clear message: "if you don't remove Trump, you are as guilty as him". Over there, McTurtle will have more control, but once the evidence is overwhelming it will be up to him and the GOP Senate to jump on board with the criminal president, or save face in front of the American public.
