The US is entitled to withhold aid in order to demand concessions on US policy

It becomes dubious where a public official withholds aid for his own personal benefit

Yes, I'm sure we've all seen the bit of film where Biden's saying he forced the Ukrainians to get rid of someone which looks slightly... well, odd!

But, as you say, if you look into it it becomes obvious that was to force the Ukrainians to try and END corruption, i.e. it reflected Americas interests abroad.

The dth stuff is purely for his own benefit.

IMO an underrated reason for the Dems changing so quickly is they’re staring at Trump cheating at the NEXT election. So it’s not just about getting him out of office, in fact, I’ll bet to them it’s not MOSTLY about getting him out of office. It’s about getting him out of office before he recidivizes. (Did I just invent a word?)

So, are you implying that Trump is not only cheating on the 2020 elections, but that he's probably going full madman authoritarian, and even if he loses he might refuse to leave, and then the path to take him out would not be clean nor clear, since a full party and several "neutral" actors might be too vested to act against him?

Yeah, so far he has never faced any consequences from his crimes, so he keeps upping the ante.

    I'm glad we clarified that.

The headline at TPM is “Trump Begs To Be Impeached.” It’s about the call for China to investigate the Bidens.

If you know TPM’s personality and attitude, that’s significant.

Right . Just very specific to say we want that guy fired . Typically I’d imagine it’s pilicy based by targeted at an individual . Obviously it’s not the only reason . But Better have a good reason to want that guy out . But like I said , I will read up on it .

People, let's not get sidetracked. China is a non-issue. Let's stay focused on Ukraine.

There's no shortage of incredibly stupid things about the "Biden scandal" narrative that the GOP are pushing, but one of the stupidest is that it seems to refer only to stuff that happened while the GOP controlled Congress.

You might recall that a primary activity of the Republicans in Congress was holding extensive hearings on and extensively publicizing every fake scandal that they could drum up , and convincing their gullible voters that SolyndraFastAndFuriousIRSBenghazigate was a huge deal that could bring down the Obama administration.

And yet, it's just a coincidence that this supposed Biden scandal - that was somehow overlooked by the tireless GOP fake scandal police - has become a pressing concern at the moment Biden starts leading the Democratic nomination and general election polls for 2020. You bet.

Urging a (somewhat hostile) foreign power to investigate a political rival isn't an impeachable act? I say that it damn well is. And so would every Republican, if President Barack Obama had done that.

I still think that it's unlikely that 20 Republican senators will vote to remove Trump, but it's getting more thinkable by the day.

Another thirteen months of participating in this degrading spectacle that's certain to be a source of deep shame in American history has to be a pretty grim prospect - even in comparison to the degradation and shame they've been willing to accept so far. And if you somehow succeed in this effort, the "reward" is another four years of the same, or worse.

John Kasich vs. Elizabeth Warren in 2020 must seem very appealing by comparison.

I agree, but the GOP math will be John Kasich (or whomever) vs. Dem vs. furious Trump going after the backstabbing Republican Party. That looks like a Dem landslide to me, and I would think to Republican politicians, too.
