The Isles have gone from a nice team with a promising future to a serious ass Stanley Cup contender in the last month. It's remarkable to see.
I was a lifelong Habs fan until they went on strike and I decided I'd never watch another minute of the NHL. That was, like, 20 years ago. But I have to say that with the Islanders moving a few blocks from my house and my kids taking up the sport, a small flame is being lit that maybe I should give the NHL another chance. I generally don't believe that you can change allegiance to a sports team but then I've never had a team move *to* me before. But are the Islanders just going to pack up and leave in a couple of years when they build a new arena in LI?
Wait, what?? You were a Habs fan? For shame. To answer your question though - I'd say you've got a couple of lockouts/strikes minimum before the Isles end up moving out of Brooklyn.
They signed a 20+ year deal. They're ours Went to the game against the Devils and loved it but that ice is going to need to move or else all the seats in the upper deck on the Flatbush/Atlantic side are obstructed past the goal line and some almost to the face off circles. The 6th Avenue side is perfect
Take it up with my Canadian dad. Yeah, I was over in the 6th Ave. and Dean St. corner (sigh, I miss Freddy's) and the arena looked terrific for hockey. It wasn't as awkward as I'd feared, except for those closed sections in the corners. But WTF was up with the freaking cheerleaders? That shit is mickey mouse.
5 Points in the first 3 games and a +5 GD for the Islanders. Might as well get that President's Cup ready now.
Wow. Talk about a lopsided trade… now I don't feel as bad for the Hodgson/Kassian trade… soo Moulson, a 2nd, and a 1st for Vanek? With Vanek being rumoured to go to mini (wanting to win a cup), there's also a huge risk he won't resign. You guys could have potentially traded a first line forward, a 2nd, and a 1st for nothing! Even if neither resigns, that's still a 2nd and a 1st given away… Thoughts?
My response? The Wild rumor is baseless and we have 20 years of high level draft picks. It's a brilliant trade. Now let's get Miller from the Sabres as well
Islanders Icon, Hall of Fame Coach Al Arbour Dies at 82 - ESPN http://espn.go.com/new-york/nhl/sto...w-york-islanders-four-stanley-cup-titles-dies Hall of Fame coach Al Arbour, who guided the New York Islanders to 4 consecutive Stanley Cup championships in the 1980s and ranks as the NHL's 2nd-winningest coach, has died at age 82, the team announced Friday. The cause of death is unclear, though Arbor was battling a lengthy illness and had been living in Florida. Arbour transitioned from a successful 14-season NHL playing career as a defenseman to become one of the league's all-time best coaches. He coached 1,500 regular-season games over 19 seasons with the Islanders after he was hired at the start of the 1973-74 season. He retired after the 1994 playoffs, but returned in 2007 at age 75 to coach one more game for the team -- a 3-2 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Arbour won 119 career playoff games -- an NHL record for a coach with one club -- over 15 postseason appearances and hoisted the Stanley Cup each season from 1980 to 1983. He finished his coaching career with 740 victories and was elected to the NHL Hall of Fame in 1996.
This is ridiculous. They haven't even been there for one season yet! But then, the place does look mobbed... Islanders, Barclays Eye Escape Clause To Get Team Out Of Brooklyn - N.Y. Post http://nypost.com/2016/02/19/islanders-barclays-eye-escape-clause-to-get-team-out-of-brooklyn/
