Romney: 58,752 - 37.9% Paul: 36,447 - 23.5% Huntsman: 25,932 - 16.7% Gingrich: 15,149 - 9.8% Santorum: 15,098 - 9.8% Perry: 1,141 - 0.7% Others: 2,325 - 1.5% 69% reporting Source: N.Y. Times
Btw, if Obama were in the mix: Romney: 15,121 Obama 11,360 Paul: 10,705 Huntsman: 7,203 Gingrich: 4,404 Santorum: 4,392 Democratic Write-Ins: 1,426 Perry: 292 So Obama would get second here, and disaffected Democrats would beat Rick Perry. This is a real big "win" for the GOP's enthusiasm, no doubts there.
Exit polls are more interesting in early-state primaries than just about anywhere else. What do they show? Paul stomps Romney among the under-30 crowd, 46%-21%. Also among those who hadn't previously voted in a GOP primary (37-22). Among "independents or something else," which make up 47% of the electorate, Paul squeaked out a plurality: 31-27-23 (Huntsman). Huntsman, meanwhile, dominated among Democrats: 41-22 (Paul)-12 (Romney). Republicans preferred Romney over Paul, 45-15. More in a minute after Ron Paul speaks. http://reason.com/blog#article_154863
Yes. And he will go nowhere. Why? This: He won third on the strength of Democratic and independent voters. Those voters won't be participating in most all of the rest of the GOP primaries.
Some more on Huntsman's numbers ... (Bigger) http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2012/new-hampshire-primary-jan-10/exit-polls So Huntsman very likely got a lot of votes from people who supported Obama in 2008. A big chunk of them are satisfied with Obama, but not enthusiastic. Many of Huntsman's voters are people that Obama could persuade to vote for him instead. That's not your typical GOP primary voter.
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” Glad to see we are at step 2!
Hey I have been in step 2 with Paul since 2008. That is why I may vote for him if he makes it to the Illinois Primary. He is a very funny dude!
Mitt Romney: 95,669 - 39.4% Ron Paul: 55,455 - 22.8% Jon Huntsman: 40,903 - 16.8% Newt Gingrich: 22,921 - 9.4% Rick Santorum: 22,708 - 9.3% Rick Perry: 1,709 - 0.7% Others: 3,583 - 1.5% 95% reporting Source: N.Y. Times
Can you explain why Paul isn't attacking Romney more? Does Paul believe Romney has a ceiling of support while Paul does not? This is horrific campaign strategy.
New Hampshire was among the very best forums for him, he spent all his time and money there, and yet he finished a distant 3rd. He would get wiped in the South even if he had money. He's campaigning for pride/2016.
It could be that. Or it could be that Romney sets his teeth on edge because he's a salesman who will say absolutely anything he thinks is necessary to close the deal. It's one of those two.
Well he does want to get elected right. I personally prefer flip/floppers over candidates that are "pure" and won't change positions regardless. To me Mitt would be willing to compromise if he has to, Santorum not so much.
The purple states (Florida). I like Paul (not all of his crazy stuff) but I doubt he could beat Obama. I would personally prefer Paul over Mitt (even when I am contradicting myself from what I posted above). Who knows maybe I am wrong.
Compromise? Isn't that a dirty word in the GOP? To me Mitt's just a lying sack of shit who'll say anything that he thinks people want to hear. And his memory's shot, he doesn't remember all the different positions he's taken over the years. And putting some Wall Street venture capitalist in the White House doesn't float my boat much either.
I think Paul has a better shot in places like Colorado and New Mexico and who knows maybe even an upset in the PNW
Let's set the record straight. I think Mitt Romney is going to get destroyed by Barack Obama this year. I think he will offer a steady slew of snide remarks over the course of the year, with that sick, simpering smile. Mitt Romney wants to be President so that his portrait will hang in the White House, not because he was driven to office by any higher call. Romney has run for office in good economic times and bad economic times. He wants to outstage his father. In many ways, George W. Bush had a more valid desire to be President because he wanted to keep gays from marrying. Romney has absolutely no reason to run. Rick Santorum wants to bring back the 1950s. Ron Paul wants to make us a gold-run isolationist libertarian haven. Hell, Rick Perry wanted to run for President in order to cut the government randomly. But Mitt Romney just wants to be President to say he did. It's a vile, foul abomination of the reason to run for any office. And that's why I can't stand him when he smirks like Professor Umbridge. Hopefully, 70 million other Americans will find him degrading enough to vote for Obama or Gary Johnson or Pat Caddell's candidate and keep him from winning.
