Share your favorite portuguese bands and songs, preferably in portuguese! All pimba music stays at the door. My first contributions to this thread: A classic. A not that classic, classic. And a recent song.
An all time legendary classic, a staple that was played 100+ times at every single casamento or Portuguese party I ever attended as a kid. I'm sure most of the current generation around my age has the exact same story. To this day I can still recall the entire lyrics...not sure whether to be proud or embarrassed? 66=69 HAHAHAH
A beautiful poem by Florbela Espanca made into a song by Trovante. Canção do Engate by António Variações And a recent song with a musician from another era. Vá lá Senhora by Os Golpes with Rui Pregal da Cunha (former frontman of Heróis do Mar)
A recente and amazing cover of António Variações' Canção do Engate by Tiago Bettencourt. Not really a portuguese song, but a beautiful duet between the portuguese Jorge Palma and the brazilian Pierre Aderne. The song is originally by the brazilian. Dezassete Anos by Os Capitães da Areia
I was watching RTP international, and they show a lot of Portuguese Singers singing in English. It sounded so ********ing bad with their thick accents. It's so embarrassing. Why do they not sing in Portuguese? Are they ashamed to be Portuguese?
Because the market for music in English is huge compared to the Portuguese one, they're trying to pull a Moonspell. But the truth is that because of the accents the real market share is basically the same, they end up trading the few fans they get in non-English speaking countries abroad by possible fans in Portugal who are turned off because of the English. The reason it worked for Moonspell is because in their genre in particular they'll find far more fans abroad in Finland, Austria or Germany then they would have found here.
