So that makes them at least 33% more efficient. Now if the electric grid was 100% coal, that would be bad.
Clean coal certainly is a better short term solution than all this nuclear waste that, if the Neanderthals had possessed nuclear energy, would still be radiating around these parts. In the big picture for global warming Germany is a neglectable factor anyways
Germany Is Burning Too Much Coal - Bloomberg https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017.../germany-is-burning-too-much-coal Nov 13, 2017 - And much of it is lignite, the dirtiest kind of coal. As a result, Germany is set to fall well short of its 2020 goal. This dependence on coal is partly a side effect of Germany's abandonment of emissions-free nuclear power and partly foot-dragging on the part of a government wary of alienating voters in German ...
Just googling and posting the next best result is how not to discuss 101. Given todays technology there is pretty much no difference what sort of coal you use. But thats what our roby is known for in this forum isnt he
Well...it's better than making outrageous claims and then getting butt hurt when someone dashes those claims to pieces. Ps...my disposition is sunnier than yours!
Power Prices Go Negative in Germany, a Positive for Energy Users https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/25/...id=fb-nytimes&smtyp=cur&_r=0&mtrref=undefined Also 2017 wrap up:
New study finds that there is more nitrogen sources that previously believed. So if models get updated with these findings, we may postpone the more dire consequences of G.W, at least for a little while longer. https://www.ucdavis.edu/news/new-source-global-nitrogen-discovered/ http://science.sciencemag.org/content/360/6384/58
Electrib Buses, the potential to save lots of oil and lower urban pollution, vs, the current economic realities. What it could be potentially. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-23/electric-buses-are-hurting-the-oil-industry https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-04-23/electric-buses-are-hurting-the-oil-industry What it really is currently.
A Finnish group wants to crowdfund a project. The project is to carve Trump’s face into a glacier then watch it melt. http://www.businessinsider.com/melting-ice-climate-group-carve-trump-face-into-glacier-2018-5
Proterra, a major manufacturer of electric buses, says that although their electric buses cost more than comparably equipped diesel fuel buses, they say that over the lifespan the two costs are comparable. Since they say their buses will save their owner $700,000 in fuel and maintenance savings over a 12-year period, we can infer that their capital cost is $700,000 more than a diesel bus. Er.... WHAT?
Is anyone else following the story of solid electrolyte batteries? But then... The wiki has some healthy scepticism as well... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_battery#Skepticism So I don't know. Then there are other possible solutions including 'super-capacitors' and Toshiba's Graphene battery...
Just an FYI on something that happened last week. Trump’s new oceans policy washes away Obama’s emphasis on conservation and climate The ocean economy employs millions of people and is growing rapidly. Not to say anything about the wildlife, whales, sea turtles, dolphins etc etc. Under the 2010 National Ocean Policy, ocean management has improved.to address issues such as offshore wind energy, state and local fisheries, sand mining and aquaculture (to name a few). With the current National Ocean Policy, there is no directive to work with states or promote healthy ocean ecosystems.

http://www.newsweek.com/volcanic-activity-melting-antarctic-glacier-below-998522 I found this interesting. With the increase in volcanic activity elsewhere, I guess I'm not surprised.
NASA’S JIM BRIDENSTINE AGREES HUMANS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLIMATE CHANGE Apparently he's been doing some reading.
Unlike these morons: In contrast, at a climate hearing this week, Republican members of the House Science Committee said that the Earth is not warming (it is), that rocks falling into the ocean are causing sea level rise (they aren’t), and that the Antarctic ice sheet is growing bigger (it’s not).
I was not sure about Global Warming thread or fake news, but this is very true, and I am very guilty of this, I do try to recycle, but I also buy way too much shit wrapped in plastics, take out food for example, I drink way too much pop, and lots of times it is plastic 20 oz. containers. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/more-recycling-wont-solve-plastic-pollution/
Yes, this is all perfectly normal... UK heatwave forecast to reach 36C before torrential downpours Parts of southern England have had only 6% of normal rainfall so far this summer There was also a piece on BBC Newsnight tonight that made clear it's not just us, it's virtually EVERYWHERE.
Looks like we'll get a tad wet... https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...nd-flash-floods-forecast-for-some-areas-of-uk For Friday they're predicting up to 3cm of rain in ONE hour and up to 6cm in THREE hours
How did that forecast turn out? Oh, and last Tuesday in Boston we got two inches of rain in ONE hour. More in some places. Not unusual here anymore. NYT article on the heatwave ... https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/27/...ight-region&WT.nav=opinion-c-col-right-region
