Wait, what? England is more fun than Germany? England? Maybe I have an odd view of this living in Berlin. Of course, nobody parks their money here. They spend it on e.
Maybe, but didn't we start this season pretty much thinking it would be city, with Pool challenging, and, well, it is. I agree on the others. It's why I've come to appreciate MLS, the Championship, the 2Bl more and more. No denying this is a good year for the Prem clubs, though. Still, every time a league does well in the CL, the assumption is "that's it then, the future will be all about" England or Italy or Spain or Germany but it doesn't last. I suppose the money says that ManU will challenge again, soon, and Pool look set to remain there or thereabouts. Chelsea, back on thread topic, look to be a hot mess. Not so sure about Tot's future. Arse? who knows. The question, Pulisic was brought in for Sarri. Will Sarri ever get to manage him? The odds look to be getting longer and longer.
At the risk of injecting USMNT into YA...I thought CP’ goal for the Nats was a good illustration of his potential for putting up big numbers with a traditional #9 in his lineup. Able to run off ZG, he carved right through the Chile defense. Imagine him being able to run off a Fwd with hold up play and deliver crosses to an aerial threat. Too bad Costa left.
It also seems to be a steep drop-off after Bayern. In the most recent CL, all the remaining German clubs were eliminated in the R16 by English clubs on an aggregate scoreline of 17-3. Last season, Bayern was the only club to emerge from group play.
Just 2 years ago in the CL, the only English club in the quarters was Leicester City. Sure, Germany is down right now and Spain had a rough go in the CL, but there were a lot of people in this thread just 16 months ago talking about how silly it was to claim that England was deep at the top, or that Dortmund would struggle to finish in the CL spots in the prem, etc... so a lot of this is just a perception/bias issue. Chelsea & Arsenal for instance aren't even very good, don't know how often they have been watched by people in this thread but there is much less a "top 6" in England right now and more like a very clear top 2, then 2 more who have had their own issues, then 2 more with the most glaring problems. And even that can be swung one way or the other with a crazy good window -- United with the right spending COULD catapult up into that top 2, just like Liverpool did last summer. It's all cyclical.
It would seem that all of the money in the EPL would cause the clubs in the league to pull away at some point. It is just a matter of time.
Right, but England were dominant in the mid-late aughts, weren't they? 3 different winners in 7 years, 4 different finalists in 3 years, 1 year with 3/4 semifinalists, all-English final? That was before Arse/United/LFC were really spending, before City's funny money, before the new prem TV deal, etc? And as I mentioned, they were shit in Europe just 2 years ago, and Spain was completely dominating. And a few more years before, Germany were the next new dominant region! So there are a lot of factors, especially because having money and presuming it's spent well are very different things. But yeah, money should probably help. Which is why England's recent failure in the CL until the last 2 seasons was so embarrassing.
Didn't watch the Chelsea-Brighton game yesterday, but Callum Hudson-Odoi apparently looked like the future superstar everyone is predicting him to be. If this kid and Hazard both leave, Chelsea fans are going to give CP 20x the Phillie fan Bryce Harper treatment every second he's out there next season (meaning: they're going to boo every little perceived wrong dribble step he makes, not like they weren't going to do that, anyway, of course).
Yeah, Pulisic should have devoted more time to new contracts for CHO and Hazard. We should all be disappointed in his failure to really dig into the manager and CFO roles, traditionally job one for the 20 year old transfer target. Just out of curiousity, while Puli and Odoi could certainly play together (one being stronger on the right, the other on the left, both being capable of playing either side) how does Pulisic get tied to Hazard leaving for RMad? Is Pulisic now supposed to be the like for like replacement for Hazard? Has he been elevated from really good young player to shortlist for best player on Earth? Hazard isn't being forced out, he is forcing the move, rejecting terms to improve his current $20m contract. Everyone knows this has nothing to do with Pulisic. Realistically, the CHO thing doesn't either, but the madness is set on that one.
2x confirmed. And by more fun you mean not even remotely close. And by more money not even close though rent really hurts.
Snort laugh. But to be fair, we borrow money from germany to buy our E. Berlin contributes something like -.03% of german gdp. Very fun read ; https://www.google.com/amp/s/qz.com...e-that-is-a-drag-on-its-countrys-economy/amp/ Ot/
How did you jump all the way from point 'A' (me actually stating that Chelsea fans will likely inordinately take their frustrations out on Pulisic next season) to point...'Z' (me supposedly suggesting this is will all be Pulisic' own fault, that he is tied to Hazard possibly leaving, etc.)??
I'm criticizing Chelsea fans who, if you are correct, will criticize him for not being CHO or Hazard. Sorry if it seemed to be directed at you
I'm taking the under on the level of hatred that the average BS poster predicts that Chelsea fans will have for CP next year. Just because these are plausible scenarios does not mean the are likely to happen. The most hated players usually don't have the great attitudes that CP has.
If they sell Hazard, it won't be a "Hazard for Pulisic" trade, it will be a "Hazard for Pulisic and a pile of transfer money that they hopefully use to upgrade at striker and/or the back line," which is a bit different.
I just hope for a fairytale ending with Christian scoring or assisting the goal that wins them the title.
Honestly Chelsea could be pretty formidable if they really do succeed in kee You have to think they are going to give Tommy Abraham a chance to make it with the 1st team next year. He's 21 and just scored 20 plus goals in the championship. The year before on a relegated Swansea team he scored 5 goals in 31 appearances which sounds worse than it really is....
