This is how most of French soccer fans see him:

France held onto Ben Arfa and Benzema but lost Nasri. But now Nasri is considered a " great player" all of a sudden in the eyes of the world after his game with Arsenal versus Real Madrid. Of course before then he wasn't a great player because he played in France. Somehow crossing the English Channel magically changes these mediocre players who play in an inferior league into great ones. go figure.

Also N'Gog made a spectacular debut for Liverpool and as one of the English commentators put it, " N'Gog is overshadowing Robbie Keane" .

If France can keep its quality players then thats already a big victory.

Well they lost Elmander too which he neglected to mention. I guess he doesnt care since he's not French.

I care. I loved Elmander. Too bad he's gone to this... this... this... to Bolton.

Bottom line is that things are not all fine and dandy and he still has a lot of work to do if he wants his footpro2012 plan to succeed.

Btw, N'Gog is on the verge of pushing Robbie Keane onto the bench after scoring his second consecutive goal for Liverpool. Keane has failed to score for Liverpool.

Thiriez is concerned about the level of French football.

    It just doesn't work.
If there's one thing in common among the big 3 leagues, it's the fact that the same teams (more or less) that were on top 50,60,70 years ago are the same ones winning cups now. when it comes to France, it's a whole different story.
What France needs is get some clubs on top, and make sure they stay there, and not have such a volatile league, that like Toulouse one year you are almost in the C1, and the next you struggle for your life in L1.
The league can't play favorites and give away wins to the big clubs. So the responsibility falls on those big clubs that can't manage themselves, and instead lose to Auxerre or Lorient. Who, with all due respect, should be in L2.
At least Lille Lyon or Le Mans have viable plans.
As club owners, they should make sure that if people don't want to come to the old stadiums to look at your crappy players, instead at least they to to a new comfortable stadium where side activities can amuse them more than watching the players on field.

Probably but its way early in that competition and they havent reached the group stage yet. Need to get all 4 teams to win this round first to get there.

The same ones mostly were atop years ago but all you need now to reach the top is a foreign owner with deep pockets to take over and France doesnt allow that. If they did then someone could buy a team like PSG and in a few years they'd be at the level of the bigger foreign clubs.

To be quite fair, I believe the quality of play in the league is actually up, though the very top teams have not improved that much. Consequently, French clubs have struggled in the Champions League, whereas they are having success, as we've seen, in the UEFA Cup. That's my explanation, anyway.

We have to be honest here , our league sucks . :(

We simply can't compete with the EPL , Serie A , La Liga and even Bundesliga .

It's it strange that Fiorentina who was Italy's 4th best team last season almost beat Lyon in France who were our champions ? Playing Bodmer and Boumsong in Ligue 1 might work(lack of any real class striker in our league) but in the CL it's a step up , and they looked average and lost . Bodmer isn't even a friggin CB ! It's amazing how someone crap like Boumsong is prefered to Cris but that's another story ,

What I'm trying to say is that the 4th , 3rd best teams in any of them leagues I mentioned can beat Lyon .

Bordeaux were pretty pathetic at Chelsea , Marseille was the only ones who put in a decent performance but still lost at home (poor defending :rolleyes:)...

Our league isn't attractive , Cisse would rather play at Sunderland than play with Marseille .. that says it all .

I was not arguing against the reality that L1 sucks. I was merely saying it was even worse in previous seasons, so hey, it's an improvement.

I thought it was the responsibilty of the guy who this thread is about, to try do things to make it so things dont suck as much. I mean he just got re-elected didnt he. I heard that he is in Aulas's back pocket so to speak, but if he really were then how did he manage to get re-elected since I think you needed approval from the majority of club presidents.

I know he cant do anything about the dcng and the high taxes but there has to be something more he can do besides increasing the tv contracts. The new stadiums will be positive but wait until when or if they are buit to earn points for that.
