He recently started two games in a row, yes. And he looked pretty good IMO. That came at a time a couple weeks ago when three new offensive players were awaiting on their transfers to go through and several were injured. There were so few field players available they carried two keepers on the bench.

This team has crazy turnover and although Freddy is improving the owner and coaches want results to come a little quicker than they have so far.

I’m guessing he wasn’t in the traveling squad for Portland/Seattle so I don’t think he’ll play Thursday against S2 either.

Hopefully he’s back up for selection 8/4 at home to Rio Grande Valley.

Good point, Justin. Everything about the last six or so years has been pretty dire for Freddy. :/

Worst case scenario, he can dress a Cash the Soccer Rocker.

As a galaxy fan it’s nice to see mendiola’s name pop up again. I had high hopes for him once upon a time.

Ok I found it on and watched the first half. I have no clue why he was played at center mid.
He looked bad. No defensive or possession capabilities.
He’s a forward, put him up top.
Subbed off in the 55th minute.

No way is Freddy quick enough (=acceleration) or overall fast enough to play forward. You've nailed the problem.

He played as one of two forwards in his best game for USMNT, gold cup final 2011. His quick touches and passes and occasional nutmegging work up top.
It’s pointless at the midfield level when u have no defensive or possession skills.

Well it was an awful match. The Lights had 36% possession against a team 15th in the table at home.

It was a hundred and hell degrees. Probably 104 I’d say at kick although downtown is hotter than here. So it might have been 107.

Maybe that’s why they tried to long-ball and press.

Here’s Freddy speaking to the crowd before the game. Might have been the supporter groups.

Freddy was on the left wing of a 3-4-3 defensively, but then drifted into midfield and sometimes backward in possession so he ended up playing center mid. He couldn’t connect with Omar Salgado who was playing like a target striker at ring wing. Salgado took 17 touches every time he had the ball and Ochoa was lucky if it bounced off his knee once.

Freddy’s touch really let him down on several occasions, Chelis was visibly frustrated with him and I was surprised he came back out for the second half. They subbed out this Juan Carlos Garcia dude at half time instead. The whole team was bad.

They won somehow, 1-0 on a 82nd minute corner kick Mendiola and Salgado were arguing about who was supposed to take. And the two coaches yelling at the same time.

So maybe Freddy had fun at the after party.

I can’t tell if he looks drunk or bored. I think bored. The only time he looked good was when he was swinging in crosses to the two trees up front with him. That’s what Sanchez had him doing all the time. Chelis is back so it’s back to his tactics, which are often haphazard.

For instance, the way he had them pressing was confusing for the players. Freddy always looked like he was going alone to press, thinking he had help, or didn’t know his responsibility. He kept looking back at his teammates and gesturing.

His touch was bad. You never see that from him. Its like he can’t receive the ball well going forward. Like a confidence thing.

That said the whole team was awful. With no excuse Mendiola was left on the bench until 12 minutes left. Maybe because they have road games Wednesday and Saturday.

I don’t know. Bad game, bad performance from Freddy. One of his least effective.

Someone asked Ingmar Bergman to direct a Freddy biopic and he was like, naw, that shit is too depressing.

Occam's Razor says he just wasn't that good for an adult. The passion play makes for better TV but most brilliant young players don't get to top. How about Josh Perez? Did he squander his talent?

I saw him play for DC in 2006. Christian Gomez was their #10, and as good as any player in the league for 75 minutes. His fitness want that great, and Aduusually replaced him. He team didn’t miss a beat.

Of course he didn't need to do any defensive duties but the game has changed since then.

Freddy was in the 18 but did not play in tonight’s 4-1 loss at St Louis.

Away to Orange County on Wednesday.

Hilarious how they use him in promos but not in games. Almost like he's an advertising gimmick or something:rolleyes:.
