If anybody was wondering, on Saturday we'll have been in sole possession of last place for 34 days

    Or 840 hours...

    Or 50,400 minutes...

    Or 3,024,000 seconds! #StandForBlue

    this one is better.

I keep hearing comparisons to the Sounders from the team and FO.... so lets compare....

Going into the 2016 season the Sounders were coming off a relatively successful 2015 campaign. Unbeaten since August 22nd. (8 games in a row) They finished 4th in the West and 6th overall. After defeating the Galaxy in the knockout round at home they exited the playoffs in the second round. (The second leg went to penalties)

Going into the 2017 season the Union were coming off a "successful" 2016 campaign. They entered the playoffs winless since August 27th. (7 games in a row) They finished 6th in the East and 13th overall. The season ended with an 8th straight loss to Toronto. (3-1 defeat)

On April 30th on 2016 the Sounders picked up their 3rd win and were sitting on 10 points. - 1.25 PPG (8 games into their season) Record: 3-4-1 - 9th place in the West, tied for 12th overall)

8 Games into the 2017 Philadelphia Union campaign, the Union have 4 points - a whopping .5 points per game. A record of 0-4-3. (Last place overall)

Sigi was fired on July 26th with a record of 6-12-2, 20 points, 1 PPG. 9th place in the West, 17th overall. He leaves Seattle having won 4 US Open Cups (2009, 2010, 2011, 2014) and a Supporters Shield. (2014)

    Jim's future: TBD.

I think they fact they're clutching on to is that, after Sigi's departure, Seattle went on a tear and ended up winning the 2016 MLS Cup.

yeah, I suppose... but hoping for something like that is the equivalent of hoping Jay Simpson is the next BWP.

Also, our point deficit is quickly approaching the 10 point deficit Seattle had in July when Sigi was fired (could easily be there on Saturday)... They were only under the red line by 4 points 8 games into the Season last year... we are at 7... after game 9 they were 1 point out of the playoffs... even if we win on Saturday and everyone else loses (a tall order) we'll still be 4 points out of a playoff spot. It's only May and I can't help but think that deficit will grow beyond what the Sounders were dealing with... eventually it's going to be too late to go on a crazy hypothetical tear.

If Sigi was the Union's head coach with his track record and that start he would be the infallible coach for life in the Union's culture.

Schmetzer definitely was a factor, but bringing in Nico Lodeiro was the major reason. The Sounders went 7-2-4 after Lodeiro joined the team. Put a clone of Lodeiro on the Union and they'll be vastly improved.

But he also had far superior attacking mids in front of him to sit behind and distribute to. I think it's a chicken-or-the-egg type of question. The bottom line is that in soccer you strength down the center of the formation, from forward to 'keeper, and the Union have too many holes in that spine.

Yes, except Ozzie is a destroyer at DMid, which is exactly what the Union need sitting in front of and protecting a young backline.

From now on any game where we let in a goal or score fewer than two goals should result in Curtain being immediately fired. The bar has been raised.

    Winning is fun.

Earnie said something during the town hall that I take for granted in my management style so I'm not sure I processed until now. He noted that when there's a tough situation and the boss is panicking and visibly distressed, this makes things even worse. They talk in management about being a duck, placid and graceful on the surface while paddling furiously under the surface to keep things afloat. It seems to me that the players all respect the staff and have bought into the culture. I wonder, now that I at least have more insight into what the organization projects, what a firing would have communicated to the team and if it would have had the desired result?

I picked up one thing last night that said a lot to me. After Herbers was sent up to be the last sub, the unused guys walked to the bench. They didn't have shoulders down or disappointment visibly expressed. They came to the bench, high fived the guys who had come out and sat down to watch the end of the game happy. Some of you might not think this says much, but that tells me we have a group that supports each other.

A). in the absence of a definitive answer, I'd vote : Winning Matters.

B). It's wonderful the players support one another. We're just hoping for a group that makes it fun for us to support.

    Bottom line is this, unequivocably:

Curtin is a coaching cockroach. He'll be on that sideline long after we're all dead unless by some miracle Sugar sells and they're all held to account for the product.

With that in mind, it's become tantamount to useless to either praise or complain about him. It is what it is, the choice has been pronounced to all. Accept mediocrity or walk.

Welp. Coming into the break and losing 2 more in a row after the hug the coach before he's fired bounce. Probably the best window of the year if there's any type of mid-season shakeup. Not that it'll happen because a crappy Union is still a better gameday experience than the Phillies dumpster fire.

It'll also help when two of their best players return from international duty as well.....

I'm sure we're all in agreement that Creavalle* doesn't play, let alone make the 18 if Jones and Bedoya are both available.

*Creavalle played well today before leaving due to injury.
