Can't imagine playing regularly on the field turf will help Sturgis and all his injury problems.

I always liked him, however, and I hope he finally reaches his potential in Seattle.

There have been rumors that he's headed back to Europe for family reasons. He might not have been a great choice (although Sturgis' health is probably a similar risk for you guys).

Who has a great deal of talent, alot of youth international experience and can play several positions. A gamble yes, but maybe not a bad one.

If anyone was still wondering if Sigi was going to be taking the Seattle job, it's been answered.

Pete Vagenas was just taken by Seattle in the expansion draft.

Sigi's guy. Recruited by Sigi to play at UCLA. Drafted by Sigi to play for the LA Galaxy. And now taken by Sigi to play in Seattle.

Wonder if Jarrod Smith is a typo? The talk was of the other J. Smith being taken

    Re: The Expansion Draft Thread

King is a good pick. I wondered why no one was positing him as Chicago's pick.

Slightly surprised at Khano Smith. He has some good attirbutes, but is two years older than Thompson and four years older than Phelan. He seemed to have wider swings of quality than the others as well.

Slightly surprised at Jacqua because the original stories when he returned to Houston said he would be traded to Seattle.

Otherwise, that's a decent group of role players and utility guys.

I would assume he meant Johann.

I would hope so, at least.

    Re: The Expansion Draft Thread

Why trade for Jaqua when you can get him for free? IIRC, Houston had a similar expansion day process in place for Cochrane - i.e. Houston tells SJ that homeboy Cochrane will be exposed so he can be taken but do not try to screw us and take somebody else.

Goff says Jarrod Smith too, either they have actually selected him :)eek:) or MLS made a typo on the press release

Outside of Evans jacqua and King, im Not impressed with these selections, especially the Jarrod Smith pick(WTF were they thinking there?). This makes me think that they have some more players from outside the league that they are looking to sign like Freddy Montero, or they're going to make some trades. Although I dont see much trade bait among the players they picked.

24 years old. 1 goal last season.

I'm not really sure what they were thinking. About a lot of those picks.

    Re: The Expansion Draft Thread

Seattle gets a decent group of players - most of whom are cheap which is the way to go with these drafts. I guess that LA and Chivas are already talking to teams about a goalie or are trying to sign someone like Matt Pickens and did not want to work through Seattle.

I may have to contact Nick Sakiewicz to help him with Philly's draft next year:
6 of 10 picks nailed: Evans, Jaqua, Parke, K. Smith, Sturgis, Wahl
2 other picks were part of my other options: Riley, King
2 off-the-board picks: Jarrod Smith, Vagenas

The interesting thing about that list is, for the most part, not a lot of those guys have a big trade-bait potential. Compare the list to, say, 2006's draft, and these are really a bunch of bench-to-mediocre guys that may net you a draft pick at most.

LOL, Ives trying to pimp the whole "First on SBI" thing, except for the fact that Goff posted the list before him. :p

Yeah, it's those "off-the-board" picks that are the most surprising, I think.
