Seems lie most teams are betting that a goalkeeper won't get picked. Maybe Hartman back to LA after the draft is over?

Terry Cooke's name is a stunner. So is Badilla given all the hype around him. And Mendes for NY and O'Brien for SJ are headscratchers.

I might take a chance on Evans from the Crew.

How is LA putting GK Josh Saunders up for the expansion draft? He's on loan from Miami FC and has already signed a contract with us for next year.

There's something about O'Brien that people don't like.

Grabavoy from SJ is also on the list which surprises me.

    My guess:

    Chivas: Ante Razov
    Chicago: Brandon Prideaux

    Columbus: Adam Moffat
    DC: Joe Vide
    FCD: Ray Burse
    Houston: Nate Jaqua
    KC:
    LA:
    NE: Pat Phelan
    NY: Carlos Mendes
    RSL:
    SJ: James Riley
    TFC: Johann Smith

Terry Cooke stuns me. Either the Rapids have already "talked" with Seattle and worked something out or they're rolling the dice that Seattle won't take Cooke after already having Ljunberg.

Without Cooke on the list I'd say the player most likely to be taken from the Rapids is Kimura. Young, cheap, defender, and a possible face to advertise to Seattle's large Asian community.

Maurico Castro was left unprotected by New England. As well as Argenis Fernandez (who isn't on your list at all).

    Chris Albright was protected.

Eh, there's probably someone still left in the wide world of soccer who might be willing to play upwards of fifteen dollars for the rights to Marinelli's fancy footwork and perpetually strained hamstrings. But no one, anywhere, will pay a nickel for Ivan Trujillo.

I'm definitely not liking this "protect all but one of your internationals" rule. In the long term, Wahl, Holbein, and even Morsink are more valuable to KC than Marinelli or Trujillo.

    Re: The Expansion Draft Thread

Knowing nothing about the contracts of the following players, I think these would be the guys I would take who can either make the squad or be used as trade bait depending on who else Seattle has in the pipeline. Typically my idea is to take young guys who have shown flashes of potential, or back ups who could be serviceable squad players and some leadership. Seems like I went with lots of wing players, but those are pretty in demand, so maybe I could make some deals for central players.

    Flores, Jorge
    Pappa, Marco Pablo
    Joy, Ian
    Thompson, Wells or Badilla
    Thompson, Abe
    Barrett, Wade
    Cooke, Terry
    Evans, Brad
    Pitchkolan, Aaron
    Randolph, Michael

Could make a pretty good team just with these guys.

    Le Toux Fwd
    Freddie Evans Center mid Pappa

    Barrett Pitch Defender/Badilla Defender
    Keller

    Re: The Expansion Draft Thread

Thanks. Fernandez isn't even listed on the Revs current roster on MLSnet, so I'll wait and see about that.

There are definitely some issues with Ives' list, because he has too many NY players protected (like 14). Boss and Cichero aren't there, and the final guy is probably either Kandji or Rojas.

Also, the retired players aren't there when they are officially still available for selection.

Barrett was exposed?! I think it's a safe bet that Jaqua is going to Seattle no matter what, but I would take Barrett in a heartbeat.

And I'll change Castro for Phelan from NE.

Isn't Fernandez on loan with some team in the Caribbeans? I'd imagine that becomes an official transfer soon.

I guess Ives list is the same as MLSnet's list.

Listed here as no longer being with the team.

And their list also has Jose Angula and Mauricio Matamoros for some reason?

Yeah, that's what I was told as well, that they actually see value in trade or transfer for Marinelli.

    Re: The Expansion Draft Thread

I don't believe it's a case of the Quakes not liking O'Brien. ROB wanted out of Toronto because of his dislike of playing and practicing on the artificial stuff. I believe that the Quakes are hoping that Seattle is aware of that and will pass on him.
