Ives keeps dropping that little bomb about new ownership, but I haven't heard anything substantial. Interesting though.
$7.5mil for transfer fee but how much for annual salary? He's very young and not quite the Mexican NT star as Vela/Chich/Gio are but I think we would be getting him cheap since I think he will be a steady at that level for awhile so we can always sell him for more later!! Kinda wondering the formation he would fit in though and who would he match up with better up top? Exciting if we pull it off or even go for it until then we will wait and see.
I think it's a smart deal for a DP. Especially if he can continue to score goals for club, and country. Houston is a great fit for a Mexican national team player.
Houston needs to do something about the unexciting forward play, and lack of goals, which may be contributing to lower than normal interest on game day. This may help with getting goals, and filling seats, and making a name in the region.
http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/1110...rge-as-frontrunner-in-erick-cubo?ICID=HP_BN_1 The Clausura ends at the end of April, 2015. Assuming that Guadalajara doesn't make the playoffs Torres would only miss a couple of months. Might be worth it to lower the $7.5 million fee.
You know if LA and Seattle are passing and we are getting sloppy seconds. i gotta think this is because he ain't worth 7.5 mil. We get Brian Ruiz for that. I am all for getting Cubo but not for stupid money. If he bombs then AEG won't just write it off and say 'let's go an get another one' like we are the Galaxy. The wasted money will hang like a millstone around our necks. torres could be marketed around here for lots of different sponsors though for the local and national latino consumers. maybe they are working that angle to reduce the cost.
If it goes through, this could be the best Christmas gift for us Dynamo fans. Torres is no Landin BTW.
I agree with this guy! <retracted> and their articles on fashion and copying and pasting others is heads and shoulders above anything OitO does.
I like to think I read OiTO very regularly - I don't remember seeing this? Can you link the actual story? *Not saying you guys didn't just honestly curious. lol
http://orangeintheoven.com/2014/12/12/breaking-news-boniek-no-longer-dp/ With a DP spot in hand, an ideal target for the Houston market – especially given the Dynamo’s current situation at the striker position – would be signing Mexican international Cubo Torres. According to Canetti, “we are tracking the Cubo situation and definitely interested in seeing how that develops and plays out.”
Brian Ruiz makes 2 million a year and is about to be 30 years old and cannot be re-sold. Cubo bombing is highly unlikely as he has already been in MLS and has been quite exciting on the most boring team. 15 goals last season. Also he can be sold later and either recoup the money or break even. Did I mention he is 21?
By the way, I just got a comment from Canetti on the ownership thing, "Regarding rumors by @SoccerByIves, Dynamo President @ChrisCanetti has told us, "There is no change in ownership forthcoming." #ForeverOrange"
Thanks! I actually read this. It was hidden in the article but my brain probably dismissed it once I read this:
Yep, whoever wrote that just didn't want to do like others and send people into false hope. Sure now there's tons of it, but at the moment it was more of a pipe dream than anything else.
