Complains team are too old... Proceeds to sign Falcao, Piggy and AdM. And claims Ole plays too defensively? Um, sure.
The older players lacked quality and leadership. Some of these that he signed were third or fourth choice. I do find his comment on Ole's style of play interesting and somewhat agree. LVG likes his teams to keep the ball and Ole's teams are willing to not have the ball as long as they attack with pace.
LvG liked his team to have the ball and then pass it around as slowly and as backward as possible. Oh and he bought Marcus ********ing Rojo. He should've been sacked for that alone.
Agreed, but how much of that is coaching and how much of that is natural? What I mean is, I feel like naturally players are taught to move off the ball and find open space, but LvG and Jose were both such "tacticians" that they coached that out of players because they wanted such a strict and rigid shape. I say that because one of my worries with Ole is that he's not really coaching up anyone, hes just letting them play. And there's credit to be given just for that. But I'm worried he's not the type of guy that's going to be great at developing someone or coaching anyone about their mean.
Oh, I’m with you. I was just commenting that regarding lvg’s interview. Particularly the “park the bus tactics.”
Yeah I get you. I went off on a bit of a tangent. But also, LvG can just shut the ******** up. He failed to adapt as he got older and that's nobodies fault but his.
Well in all the big games so far we have defended with 9 or 10 men behind the ball. The last 35 minutes vs Spurs, vs Arsenal in the league, vs Chelsea in the FA cup and vs Liverpool (even tho different circumstances). Both legs of the PSG game.
I question your statement because you are comparing apples to oranges. They move better off the ball because they allow opposition to have the ball which in turn will give them more space when they have the ball to counter. LVG likes his teams to keep possession, he brought in Martial for penetration purposes and if he had more time he would have more players with creativity. Teams that played against us under LVG used to sit deep and allow us to have the ball and we did not have enough fire power up front to do create and penetrate. Today's team can take control of games and keep possession in the final third (with a better six than Matic) so the disappointing piece for me is that tactically we can better in controlling the game with no room for the opposition to breathe when in possession. Now I do understand that we had injuries, philosophies are being established but I am skeptical. There were games under Fergie when we would have over 60 percent possession and it would 3-0 at half time. That is called attacking dominance.
I think that's personnel based, and it was a different league back then. I guess we'll find out next season.
Ferguson had a squad he knew backwards and forwards. If ole is to accomplish what you described he needs time. Remember he does not have even a preseason
I doubt LVG has watched us that much in the EPL - he is probably forming his opinion of Ole mostly from the Champions League games which it is more likely he did watch. For the PSG games, given the oppo and the squad fitness and injuries at that time I think his point about being defensive is fair, but it is far from a representative sample. Either ways, probably fair to say all of us on this board have watched more Mourinho / Ole games than he is likely to have watched (especially Mou ones - we were all near switch-off and we were forced to watch as supporters!)

I really don't give a fat flying rat's ass about what LVG has to say. The current team is irrelevant to his time w the club. And, he didn't know what the hell he was doing when he was here.
