Fantastic interview. Nearly forgot how much love I have for this guy, one of my all-time favorite players. Would kill to have a Darren Fletcher in the team these days.
Still think we would have had a good shot at back to back CL wins had he been eligible to play in the 09 final. He was in incredible form that season, which was impressive by itself given how maligned he had been until then. Plus the pairing of him and Carrick in the middle of park was superb: his workrate and grit were the perfect compliment to Carrick's more silly and smooth play. Crazy how he reinvented himself seemingly out of nowhere. And Cesc can eat it too until the end of time as well: 2011's defeat was pretty conclusive, whereas you can't shake the feeling that we would have taken Barca if Fletcher was there in Rome.
I'm gonna guess that he meant Fletcher was one of the first names on the team sheet at the time, which I don't disagree with. That 2 year span between 09-11 was an incredible period for him.
If this is not you being a syntax Nazi (don't see how/why), it's pretty obvious to me that Fletcher was the missing piece for us that day. Unlike 2011, where Barca were in total control almost from the off, this game was actually relatively close, and had we had someone like him in midfield, who works his tail off and would have been a pest to Barca's attacking players and disrupted their passing game, things might have been different. And that's even before we look at his potential impact on Carrick's game that day as well and how he would have freed him more offensively, and perhaps he would not have been completely overwhelmed and poor as he was that day. Fletcher's absence had huge repercussions, as he was in the form of his life that season.
Thoughts and prayers for Welbz, who suffered what looks to be a nasty leg/ankle injury. He's not the unluckiest athlete ever, but the guy was seemingly always cut down by a serious injury just when he is in a good period of form. He was having himself a pretty season, despite relatively limited opportunities. Hope he recovers fully and we'll see him again at some point.
Get well soon Danny Havent posted the ankle pictures because they are fairly graphic. Danny Welbeck carried off on a stretcher with a leg injury during @Arsenal's Europa League match with Sporting Lisbon #SSN pic.twitter.com/65n99YN6KG— Sky Sports News (@SkySportsNews) November 8, 2018
Sad to say, because I liked Welbs, but his career at the top level is in jeopardy. He's just missed too much time and for a guy that relies on his physicality and mobility, these injuries are going to start taking their toll.
it was a really bad break. heart goes out to him. three knee blowouts now this? has anyone had worse luck? perhaps but no one immediately comes to mind. and he isn't a dirty or wild player to say it would be expected. just got an England call up too
Rossi immediately came to mind. Poor Danny though, he was doing well for himself under Emery... Very unlucky.
short video of Nani but you can tell like Rafael, Evra and some others from the old gang that they are fans at heart too https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/11548862/nani-hopes-utd-get-back-to-their-best
Chill dude. I just thought it was a little clever play on words, grim and unfortunate as it was and I wondered if you did it intentionally.

RB Leipzig are said to be interested in offering Nick Powell a pre contract in February, to get him for free in the summer after his current contract with Wigan runs down. Still just 24 and worth a flyer I guess, since it won't cost them anything. Don't know how he's performed of late, but It could be argued he's fortunate to potentially have such an opportunity. Hopefully, the penny has dropped for him by now.
