Won't comment on their chants, as I'm a supporter of another club and it would be catty to try to criticize- you know, every standup comedian think s/he's the funniest/cleverest. Seems like a great idea to get the chants across to a lot of people with a card, tho.

I will say, tho, that my idea of a hymnal includes binding, at the very least...

Why doesn't anyone have a hymn anyhow? Seems it would add a sense of gravity to the matches.

I remember when Madrid went down two or three goals to somebody in the UCL a few years ago in the first leg. The (televised) pre-match atmosphere at the Bernabeu was something I'll never forget. They played some composition and everyone seemed to shut up. The camera panned around and there were folks crying and crossing themselves. No "Rah-rah/Let's go whoop that ass" going on in that special, serious moment.

C'mon! No comment on #3?? A chant on the stadium vote of the Austin city council? Did an 8 year old come up with that one?

I got one that took me 10 seconds to come up with:

    We love soccer
    It is fun
    It's better than shooting off
    Grampa's old gun
    YEEEEE HAAAAA!!!
    (Repeat until unconscious)

Not sure what it means. I'm guessing someone had to vote on Austin as an expansion city, and it went their way, seven votes to four?

If people are going to hate on them for how they got into the league, I'll have none of it. As much fun as it was to hear frustrated Orlando fans talking about "Built, not bought", like it matters... no, I won't pass that shit downstream. Those fans didn't choose their owner or the situation in which they'd get a team. They just want to be part of MLS, and I don't blame them.

Don't even care how they got in. Talking about the chants. Except for the McConaughey one they show zero originality. Like trying too hard to create a culture that's better developed organically.

Nothing about MLS is organic, nor is it about many other clubs elsewhere in the world that aren't 50-60 years old. Not going to do the hipster pose- my club got bashed for our chants on its way to a .500 record in titles/years played. You're going to have to tell e which chants are attributed to what celebrities. I don't know who Wooderson is, and I've heard of Matt McConaughey but don't know what he has to do with Austin FC.

How would you organically organize cants for a new club? Or would you just tell everybody to make as much noise as they can for the first decade, waiting for some authority to tell them they've been around long enough to chant?

My guess is, they knew a bunch of folks from other potential cities and a lot of people who hate Precourt wanted to see this bid fail, because of Precourt. They don't gaf about Precourt any more than I do about turf. They just want a team.

I have two of my grandfather's old guns. I'll use them if I need to.

Are you RBNJ or ManCityB? You haven't ever said that I can recall.

When I read the Alright chant it set a Darrius Rucker song off in my head. You sure they were rippin' on a Wooderson quote? 'cause it'd be a lot cooler if they did.

I'm sure it's McConaughey related. Alright alright alright is a meme at this point. And I see him on the sidelines at UT footbaw games all the time too.

Because the lyrics and the chant start out exactly the same and don't deviate until we get to "Aus-tin F C". It wasn't until yoss's Wooderson reference that I got the Dazed and Confused reference.

Speaking of Kool/gang... Has any group made a masterpiece like Summer Madness and spent the next decade creating crap lile Celebrate and Cherish The Night?

Frankly all of them. Making masterpieces is what enables you to create mediocre crap for decades if your group doesn't break up or a key member dies. Look at the Rolling Stones.

But the Stones had only three good songs all told- Angie, Ruby Tuesday and Paint it Black. Everything before and after was garbage.
