But that's not true. Ibra loves Messi, he says it all the time. Eto'o was moved on to get Ibra by the board and it was an awful decision. Neymar and Messi are best friends.

Idk about Alexis so I won't touch on that.

Busquets and Iniesta are shadows of their former selves. You're comparing 2016-17 to 2008 - 2012

Well how about we simply give them both the respect they deserve. Both will go down as one of the best players of all time, just happens they played at the same point in time.
Now that being said, if I had to choose one of the right now, I would choose Ronaldo as I think he has shown the ability to adapt his game where I dont think Messi can or will be able to. Ronaldo simply put is the perfect player both physically and mentally

Ronaldo has now scored more goals at Camp Nou in El Clasico (11) than Messi (10)

Lol being the top scorer at Real Madrid is a big deal. It's the most successful club and has had the greatest players and achievements and his records stand out .

Only people on the Portugal board would think Portugal has had more talent than Argentina since 2000. They are always expected to do more at the World
    Cup than we are

Of course it is a big deal!

And we're smarter than everyone else.

Since 2000 is a bit misleading because it includes the best teams Portugal has had, with which Ronaldo only played with when he was ultra young. Also Portugal had arguably thee better squad in 2006 when Messi was himself ultra young.

There have been 2 world cups with both at the top of their game: 2010 (Messi was still 22 but already great) and 2014 and in both Argentina had the better squad.

Think about the players Portugal has had since 2000. This argument is agnostic of the Ronaldo Messi debate. I mentioned it because ofbthe traditional Argentina being better quote above. In the recent history I'd say Portugal was better.

I'd agree that the world cup squads for Portugal those two cups were not great but I'd put blame on selections rather than players available.

And you're leaving out 06 which featured both and Portugal was stacked.

I'm specifically focusing on the Messi/Ronaldo debate, as that was the context under which the talent since 2000 was invoked. I reject that this is a meaningful period and argued why.

My opinion is that, in both club and country, the one with the better teammates has done better. You might find an exception here and there, but Messi dominated the club when Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Pique, Busquets were in their prime (as evidenced by Spanish success) and now Ronaldo dominates because Real Madrid are better.

There's very little to separate the two, honestly. Two years ago, I would have given the edge to Messi but now I see he can't lift Barcelona high enough either (like Ronaldo couldn't before). I honestly think that Messi either leaves Barcelona or he could be nearly done in terms of major titles. Career wise, Ronaldo may be older but he is entering a golden age for Real Madrid.

Edit - 2006 was my second biggest disappointment after the final in 2004. We had a phenomenal team and if it wasn't for Boulahrouz we could have won it. I honestly think we could. I'll grant you that, from all the Argentina/Portugal teams that these players had (as leaders) that was probably the best.

Nah the context of the 2000 time period was that Z said argentina is traditionally better than Portugal.

I don't see how the 70s and 80s matter in this context.

    Argentina was finalist in 2014

I think in 2018 our squad will likely be stronger than theirs. Lord Eder will lead us to more glory.

    Portugals teams
From 2008-2016 were worse than Argentina during the same period.

Definitely not 2016. 2010-2014 for sure though. I think that has a lot to do with Bento tbh

The context wasn't a Messi Ronaldo comparison? Don't be pathetic.

Only in 2010 and 2014 did they both play in a WC as mature players and Messi had the better squad by a mile.

    Use your reading abilities.

The context was Z saying argentina is traditionally better than Portugal.

You were replying to that statement, which itself has a context.

The context (where all these statements are included) was a conversation comparing Ronaldo to Messi. Denying this is absurd. I'm done.

    Are you kidding?

Z said argentina is a traditional powerhouse.

I said since the turn of the century I'd agrue Portugal has had more talent.

    Wtf are you on about?

I read somewhere that educated Spanish speakers and Portuguese speakers can understand 90% of the other's language. Why can't we all agree on these two players ?
