The idea for this originated in the YouTube thread after I figured out how to create short clips of classic games from VHS tapes to DVD and then to get the whole uploading process going. Dead Fingers suggested it could be useful if a separate thread got started where people could post interesting clips of classic football games (mainly German ones, of course, but not only) and posters could leave comments regarding the clips in the thread. So far I've uploaded 30 clips to YouTube (unfortunately the audio track tends to lag behind the clips which can be annoying) and I will post links to them in this thread.

There were some comments in the other thread which I wanted to reply to:

    FC Alte Haide

Yes, it's a joy watching that team and Beckenbauer's style of playing is my all-time favorite in football history.

Officially it can make clips out of a full length game but for unknown reasons that's not working with my DVDs. Takes some time uploading a DVD to your pc harddrive and then to convert a 90 minute game takes about 4 hours, so I gave up on that. I cut the games with the help of my DVD HDD player although the longer the hightlight clip gets the more out of synch the audio gets with the pictures which is a real problem. To avoid it getting out of hand too much I have to use different parts even if it would work in one part length-wise. Would love to cut it with the Movavi but it's not accepting my DVDs. But most importantly, the conversion is working really well.

I thought the 1970 semi final is already well covered at YouTube? I am currently mostly interested in uploading really rare stuff. But I'm sure I will get to Italy-Germany 1970 at some point.

I wanted to put up the entire 1974 world cup final but some guy has already done that, in english commentary as well so that's already done!

No, there's hardly anything by way of proper highlights. If you could do one with all the chances and everything, that'd be great.

    :)

I can't believe only 2 people have kicked this thread!

One question - where do you get your collection of games from and what eras and how many more games do you actually have apart from the ones on youtube and the ones sent out in the great bayern and germany thread?

Looking forward to the 2nd half of the 1970 semifinal highlights. It'll take a while to get all the chances into a clip!

wow, that's a lot of games. must have taken a long time to put together

I wouldn't mind you starting a thread for a mailing list on games from the 1979-1982 period someday

Took me some time, but most of them I got during the last 4 years. There will be no more mailing lists from me, it takes too much effort to get it together.

The Italy 4-3 West Germany 1970 is now complete!

Thanks! I've watched the game of course but there were some people who could do with seeing good, extended highlights.

    That's why I uploaded them.

I will be uploading some of the 1979-1981 games next. Will start with West Germany 4-1 France from 1980. The footage quality of these games is not as good as the other ones, though, because the tapes are coming from VCR recordings not straight from tv vaults.

Brilliant. Was it played in 1981 after the euro win?
