    MLS USA 2014

    (A one-year product and brand.)

MLS LA would also be generically fine.

Hopefully they reconsider using the Chivas USA brand this year even without new ownership. A generic placeholder would be a step up for the organization. Particularly with the backing of Chivas Guad now out of the picture. The Chivas USA name makes even less sense now than it did before.

I think a great name for the new club would be Los Angeles County FC. The branding of the club would be "this is LA County's team" setting the stage for the LA County FC vs Galaxy "derby" for bragging rights. It would be difficult to find a nickname for the club though.

Problem is that name would then alienate Orange County.

Honestly, LA is a rich market, but not for a rebranded Chivas. Chivas is a stain on MLS and needs to either be purged or moved far from it's origin. They could allow a Minnesota, St. Louis, Atlanta or other club to gain footing and allow for a business owner who wants a fresh start to tap the LA market later, once it is clear that there is room for growth in the same capacity as NY.

Any business owner that takes on Chivas USA, or whatever name they would be rebranded as, in LA would be small potatoes compared to someone in 3-5 years in a fresh start.

And as if that weren't harsh enough, I will state the obvious- there simply aren't enough Chivas fans to make MLS lose out in a move. You could move this team to Alaska and or Alamagordo New Mexico and win here.

    Angelenos C.F.

Simple, elegant, local, nomenclature not used by or "confusable" with another MLS club but still "soccery".

I hope they keep the stripes but doubt they'd want any tie to the "heritage".

Goats fans, it's your team: what do you think?

How does the Rock Springs, Wyoming "Chivas's" sound?

Garber mentioned expansion again and listed cities by name. Including Sac. There was no reason to do that in connection with the Chivas announcement. I honestly think MLS would be receptive to someone buying Chivas and moving them. They can then demand even more money from anyone wanting to secure LA2 expansion. Starting from the ground up might be better than a rebrand .... Nothing would surprise me at this point.

Would be a great name even for the new ownership. Wonder if the trademark would be an issue?

Weren't some Chivas supporters pushing for a basic Club Deportivo Los Angeles rebrand already? Either would be fine.

But I like mine best. "Just say no" to Aztecs, kids!

Only if you ignore the part where the guy asking questions specifically asked about expansion, and Garber ran down the list of usual suspects when answering.

    Yeah, except for that part.

Internacional de Los Angeles would be an all inclusive name. It would make heritage to the melting pot that is not only LA but the United States as a whole. I think it is safe and smart from a global standpoint.

I've long thought "Inter LA" would work well. The full name would, of course, be something like you proposed.

SoCal United. That would include LA, OC, San Bernadino, SB, etc.

I think the "the Melting pot" concept can go a long ways. That can even be a supporter group name jajaja.

I like this idea aswell. The team representing the whole region.
