I think he's there mentally. I honestly think he's an honest guy, but with certain character quirks that every manager has. I've never had a coach who wasn't partly an arsehole. And if he's not there doing something, the club will sue his ass for breach of contract.
Except in this instance? By all accounts he's been a dead man walking for months. Hell he gave up on the squad and some of the squad him.
I'm just a little surprised it's taken this long given the club's history of sacking when they've felt they had to.
Oh yeah totally agree. This whole process is just shambles. I genuinely feel we are asleep at the wheel. The club CANNOT continue with Conte no matter how much fans love him. The second half of the season was a debacle. Squad makeup was a debacle, not on him at all, but we don't have a TD. That has to be filled. New manager has to be filled. Squad additions need to be filled. Hell if we're going to use cruise control, we might as well have given Lampard the keys to the car and given him a long contract with Ballack as TD and Jody as assistant.
Like Brock said, Conte is a honest and hardworking guy. He tried his best last year as well. I never saw this "gave up" thing that others saw. He could have moaned in private and made better tactical decisions in some matches but he is also human. Willian and Luiz will walk if he is still there? Yeah, fine by me. Good riddance. Everyone else seemed to care in the last few games and final. That said, I see him being sacked on the first day of next season because he lost the pre-season tournament.
Club not upgrading the squad is on the board and has been for ages. Always happens when we win a title.
I'm not arguing in the contrary. I'm saying that while we have Conte, we're even less likely to do so. We also didn't win a title last year.
Just saw this. What a ********ing cluster********. Conte had to go. It's sad because I loved him as a manager. Like all managers though I questioned some stuff, but the way he gave up was just too much. Some of that is on the players too don't get me wrong, but they kept going. But to bring him back, without any real clarification only to sack him a few days in is absolutely disgraceful. No matter all the shit that went down with Costa etc. Not the way to do it.
On one hand, he got results. Two trophies. More than most clubs get in a decade or decades. On the other, he created massive rifts with players after just a year when results didn't go our way. Wonder if Willian stays now.
I'm starting to question that. This visa situation is putting all kinds of unnecessary stress on us from the stadium to the managerial situation to the lack of a TD. It's not all rainbows and unicorns right now.
I'm saying maybe Roman maybe made Conte come back for 4 days to do training just to be an asshole because he was an asshole to Costa, whom I think Roman kinda liked a lot. Luiz as well. All said and done, 95% of clubs wouldn't mind being in our world of shit, being linked to quality players and already having quality players on the books. Our levels of expectation are quite higher.
