Without wanting to overanalyse this line up.... there are a few interesting selections in there. Kenny not even making the match day squad is a unsurprising disappointment, when Coleman gets fit will he be their 4th choice right back? Dowell disappears too despite poping up with goalscoring antics in pre season.

All the English talent on the bench, other than DCL, who won't be first choice striker for them during the season anyway most likely.

Kenny and Dowell should both be trying to get Championship loans. A full season there to iron their games out would be ideal.

I wonder what percentage of English players will be playing in the Championship this season. Just noticed Wolves have only the one Englishman in Conor Coady starting today which is quite depressing. I know in the Prem it's almost the norm but in the Championship? Bring on Brexit and hopefully stricter controls.

I can't believe they managed to sign Ruben Neves. It's a shame although there are plenty of young English players in the Championship now, look at Forest's squad for example.

Big player turnover at Wolves. Just hope their new wave of talent gets the chance. We talking Jordan Graham, Morgan Gibbs-White, Conor Ronan, Niall Ennis, Austin Samuels, Taylor Perry and there are indications that the coach does see futures for them. He started 19 year-old Bright Enobakhare.

What would people think about unceremoniously retiring this thread and replacing it?

I think this summer firmly proved that a paucity of young English talent isn't the issue any more. People on this forum mostly thought that already but, importantly, winning tournaments has altered the perception of young English players in the mainstream media and general fan conversation. Young English players not being good enough now seems dead both as a reality and as a commonly held belief.

We could have a "Big paucity of English opportunity thread" instead, which is what the debate in this thread seems to be devolving into anyway. Young English players - and indeed the talented young foreigners the big academies buy in - aren't struggling for game time in our top two tiers due to any lack of quality.

It kind of merged quickly enough into a miscellaneous thread for everything else but you are more than welcome to create a new alternative thread.

Please use new thread. For future discussion.
