Would love to see a 3-5-2 with Rash / Rom, something like; --------- Rashford -- Lukaku Shaw.-- Pogba -- Herrera -- Valencia ----------------- Carrick -------- Rojo -- Bailly -- Lindelof ------------------ DDG Or new #6 for Carrick Or Herrera at #6 and new CAM / Mikhi / Mata etc.
If by "dynamic" you mean a player who runs around and around more but offers less end product, Benteke definitely > Lukaku.
Doesn't have to be Rojo, we now have plenty of squaddie CBs The back three worked for Chelsea and Spurs as it both allowed an additional attacker and also meant less tracking back for the attackers. Worked well for us for a while until injury brought an end to it. Would love to see Rashford or Martial join Lukaku up top.
Lukaku is ready to give his all for Jose. www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/10944308/romelu-lukaku-ready-to-go-through-a-brick-wall-for-jose-mourinho
A switch to this formation would explain our interest in Perisic with him playing LWB/LM. However this formation leaves Miki and Mata out in the wind. Neither can play the RWB role and neither can function as an 8 against any decent side. It would also leave us with three strikers rotating in two positions which is a little concerning. I wouldn't expect this to be our go to formation but more of a plan B. Also, you'd want your best ball playing CB in the center CB position which is probably Lindelof. Especially when you have someone like Bailly who is much faster and can utilize his speed as the RCB.
Seems like a moderately good signing in a limited market. Also happy that Ed got it wrapped up before the tour started, and he can have a full preseason with us.
His first touch is going to be a problem against teams that sit back and defend http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Utd-fans-react-Lukaku-s-touch-goes-wrong.html
Oh really? Are you seriously suggesting that we should have spent 75m on Benteke instead of on Lukaku?
He gets my support now that he's a United player I want to see doing well and his Prem goal scoring record history bodes well for him. But if there is one position the market was really not limited, it was at striker. It's not often that so many top rated strikers were all available in the same window. Just hoping that he gets on well with and makes guys like Miki and Martial better. Plus, that his desire to do well and leave his mark will be enough to propel United back to the top.
He was the safe choice. In terms of who was realistically available, here's the potential vs safest breakdown IMO... Highest potential 1. Auba 2. Belotti 3. Morata 4. Lukaku Safest bet to succeed 1. Lukaku 2. Auba 3. Morata 4. Belotti
Romelu Lukaku may be United's Plan B, but he's a striker in the Jose mould. www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jul/12/romelu-lukaku-manchester-united-jose-mourinho-didier-drogba
So did Rooneys his entire career and he managed to end up United's all time scorer. One negative doesn't make a player.
I don't think anyone here "ignores" the fact that Lukaku's first touch is lacking, but the reality is that he is a very good striker of the ball who can score with either foot or his head. With Ibra down for a long time and Rashford being far from proven we needed a pure 9 more than we needed a pure 10. Rooney never had a great first touch, yet he was dominant for a 7-8 year run until 2012 (I'll have to do the math on his goal total during that run someday, but it's probably close to 200 of his 253 goals for United). If Lukaku can score 200 goals over the next 7-8 seasons I'm happy to completely "ignore" his lack of proficiency in his first touch.
