I agree with you, but I'm also wondering what changes when Xhaka plays deeper. I think the biggest issue we have is that we don't have a consistent partner for him, regardless of formation. It clearly shouldn't be Coquelin, but a structure of Ramsey, Xhaka, and Ozil should work (or would if Ramsey's defensive work this season hadn't fallen off a cliff).
They made a conscious effort to feature the gold and choose a red that's not as bright as UGa. But, yeah, it ain't easy.

It's the same old issue that Arsenal don't have a single decent 8, let alone two of them So it always comes back to the issue of not having 6+6 or 6+8 combo So then you end up playing Ozil left because you need to fit in 2 relatively ordinary midfielders e.g Ox + Ramsey
we were playing a 4231 when Ozil first arrived. We tried 433 but Wenger used Jack as a 10. I want to give Ozil to be Ozil without jeopardizing our defense. Have him on the right.
Is Ozil the massive defensive liability we assume he is? We don't have the personnel to play a 4-3-3 because of the midfield. Scratch that, we don't have a functioning midfield. Xhaka will get better after a full pre-season that's not after an international tournament (hope this is also true for Mustafi). But I don't think I've ever come into a season and been this . . . disappointed. This team needs major surgery, and we thought before the season the title was realistic.
I know we have a lot of stats that show that Ozil runs more than most outfield players--but I wonder how much of that is out of possession. Based on me watching him, he doesn't pose much of a problem to other teams if they want to flood our central midfield.

we dont have it we need two 8s he is a defensive liability in that Wenger asks him to do too much when we dont have teh ball. If you tell him to contain or defend a half space, he can do it and do it well.
