The last time a team has gone perfect through ACC play was UVA in 2001. Wake has a chance to do that with a win against Syracuse tomorrow night.

This is probably easier to do with the split conference, and not having to play every team. Wake has had a slightly easier path this year by not having to play Notre Dame, Duke, or UVA, but still a pretty noble achievement if they can pull it off.

As far as weekend games go, VT vs Pitt will be a big one. Both have the RPI to make it into the tournament, but VT is sitting one game below .500 and Pitt has a .500 record. A loss would mean that that team has to have a good performance in the ACC tournament.

Yeah, going back to last year against the ACC, Wake has won 11 in a row and is undefeated in its last 15 (13-0-2).

Of course they haven't played UVa during that stretch so..:cautious:

What a game for Duke! Defeats UVA 1-0 on a late game goal from freshman Daniel Wright, off a cross from Max Moser. UVA really dominated possession the whole game, as Duke sat back, defended mightily, and took their chances on the counter attack. Only took 6 shots total (compared to UVA's 13) but made 'em count, with 3 on goal (UVA's 2 on goal).

I really thought UVA was going to win, and that Duke was lucky in this won. But that's soccer. It was very exciting, especially on Sr night for Duke.

Duke leaps all the way up to 4th in the standings, thanks to clemson/notre dame and uva losing. It's been an impressive season for Duke, as they finally put it all together ON FIELD. Hopefully it can continue in the post season.

Tough night for Pitt. I don't see them making the ncaa tourney now. NCSU blew a big opportunity to jump up the standings as well, after a 0-0 draw with lowly BC. But they still get to host a 1st rd ACC tourney game. Impressive tournaround season for them too.

NC State falls out of the Tournament Projection with the 1st-round loss. The remaining 8 teams are comfortably in. Pittsburgh will stay home with an 8-10-0 overall record.

NC State clearly on the bubble, and doesn't need upsets in conferences like the WAC or the Sun Belt.

Wake Forest 3, Virginia Tech 0

    SFs
    Notre Dame @Virginian
    Clemson @ Wake Forest

Tech finishes at .500 and with a high enough RPI that they should get an at-large bid.

How does the Defensive Player of the Year, on a team that only gave up 10 goals, NOT make the First Team?

Wake up 1-0 at the half

Such a fantastic individual effort by Bakero that lead to a good save by Ximo Miralles. Fernandez was then able to score off the rebound.

I'm just happy they were able to advance by scoring a couple of goals.

That said, making the final of a conference with 7 top-ten teams is no small feat. They - or any other ACC school - likely won't see that many Top 10 teams in the NCAA Tournament.

Also, the win tonight pretty much assures UVa of a seed and a first round bye. It will be interesting to see if the NCAA gives all 7 of the top ACC teams a bye.

Just wanted to get some thoughts from those that have been following the ACC pretty closely this year. My overall thought is that the ACC is a bit overrated this year.

Most years I think that the teams are even better than their RPI shows, but this year I don't think that the 7 teams ranked in the top 10 are all deserving. IMO Clemson isn't as good as a team as they were last year (from the few games I've seen), and when you watch Duke, I think you would have a hard time saying that their play is that of a top 3 team in the nation. Also, I know Notre Dame has played a lot of good teams, but I would say they have not looked like a top 10 team this year.

Louisville has looked up and down to me, but when they are playing well, they actually reflect their ranking pretty well. I haven't seen too many of UVAs games, but they seem to be relatively consistent this year.

Am I the only one thinking this, or am I being overly pessimistic with the conference this year?

0-0 at the half between Wake and UVA.

Wake down a player with a red in the 40th minute. stupid yellow card by the wake player.

Koffi has been the best player on the field in my opinion.

UVAs agonizingly slow play should make for another boring second half even with Wake down a player.

Crazy to me that UVA continues to set their defensive line behind mid field while being up a man.

UVA playing for PKs the entire game loses 4-3 in PKs to Wake.

I know people have harped on UVAs approach to games, but they are the perfect example of why people don't see college as a good place to develop players. Never tried to win the game, perfectly content sitting in their half all game. There are some talented players on their team, but I'd rather watch baseball than watch them play.

Not exactly the showcase you'd hope for from the supposed best conference in college soccer.

Congrats to Wake. Deserved ACC champs.

Gelnovatch playing not to lose in big games is infuriating, boring and bad for college soccer. George, you have talented players, dude. Roll the ball out and let them attack. It's not like the other team you're facing is Bayern Munich.

I agree that the ACC is a tad overrated this year but I won't be surprised if the conference ends up 8 bids, 7 seeds and 2 College Cup teams.

    And bad for his team!

A UVa win was well within reach after the Wake red card, and would have put UVa at #7 in RPI (instead of #9), almost certainly getting them a top-8 seed, and a decent chance at a top-4 seed. And if it backfired into a loss, RPI would have been around #12, still good enough for a seed.

    Stupid decision on every level.

And we know it happens in so many conferences. So many teams having a negative approach to the game, just hoping they can sneak a goal by the magic of some extra terrestrial luck.
We can see the results of many tournament games: a lot of 0-0 or 1-0.
Indeed a bad way to promote college soccer.

I have it as 6 if they won and 10 if they lost...1st element uses the point system, while the 2nd and 3rd elements use W-L-T.

I don't get the "play not to lose" mentality when you're going to be seeded regardless. Makes more sense in one of the small conferences, where advancing is everything.
