You should start a big soccer event. Not toasters, but toast itself. Salted butter only (for microbiological stability) or just plain toast. You pick the date and addressee. I will send toast. We will all send toast.
Computers have calculators built-in, so I don't need that. I have used websites for a binomial probability calculator, linear regression with many variables, and generating random numbers. Columbus won at the Red Bulls for the second consecutive season to remain alive for the Supporters Shield longer. To remain alive, FC Cin must win hosting Vancouver and have LAFC not win at New England. Vancouver will be eliminated from the Supporters Shield if they lose, LAFC wins, or both clubs do the same. If LAFC wins, both of them will be eliminated from the Supporters Shield. Columbus and Chicago both have 24 points from 24 games. Chicago is at Houston and Columbus and Columbus is at San Jose. Columbus and Chicago will be eliminated from the Supporters Shield if they lose and LAFC wins. Colorado is last in the West, but they have 1 fewer point and 2 fewer games played than Vancouver, and they can't be eliminated from the Supporters Shield this weekend. Does anybody know what the record is for most clubs eliminated from the Supporters Shield on the first weekend that had clubs eliminated? https://www.mlssoccer.com/standings added dashed lines to the standings. They always had s olid line for the playoff boundary. They added dashed lines between first (bye) and second (Conference Quarterfinal home game) and between fourth (home) and fifth (away).
One point behind the team in the last playoff slot, even with Portland having a game in hand, does not look very toasty.
You are all such horrible pains in the neck. And, yet, because I am such a gracious, giving, and wonderful person, the 2019 Toast Thread will be posted before next weekend.
We've 7 road games and 4 home games left to make up 3 points to squeeze into the playoffs. Our current record on the road is 2-8-0. We've got games against NYC, Philly, Dallas, KC, Vancouver, LAFC, and RSL. It is entirely possible we get swept on all of these games. Our home form has been crap lately. Since the beginning of May, we've gone 3-3-2, with those 3 losses the most recent games. Only 4 home games left, against the Galaxy, Minnesota, Orlando, and Colorado. We might win one or two of those. But I wouldn't put money on it. With that schedule and our form, I dont see how or where we make up ground on anyone. No, we'll continue to sink. The season ended with our loss to Cincy a few weeks ago and it's just taking a while for that to become fact.
It's not my job to figure out the toast formula, but the point of it isn't to evaluate form. Of course Houston will miss the playoffs if they play like crap the rest of the way. Toast asks what happens if a team plays quite well the rest of the way. If they play on a 2 PPG pace the rest of the way, are they still screwed? Houston would reach 52 points with a 2 PPG pace, and a quick check tells me that only one team has ever missed the playoffs with 52 points in the era of 34-game seasons.
