If Zidane were smart he’d reach out to Bayern. They have the infrastructure in place and the talent is there. Although they are going to need a slight rebuild here shortly to replace their aging stars, but they do have natural successors already there.

I bring up Jardim because I enjoy the way his teams play and how he lines up. Even though we don’t have the personnel for it, I would love for us to bring back the 442 and that’s something Jardim is familiar with. Other than that, its really due to a lack of available options. We’re not going to get anyone better mid season. We could always hand the caretaker job to Carrick for the rest of the season but that would only be if we are in contact and have reasonable hopes of someone better coming over the summer like say Pochetino.

I think it's more accurate to say that Jardim has had one exceptional season (when he won Ligue Un and reached the CL semis with Monaco a couple of seasons back), but he's had other solid, decent campaigns, whether it's with Monaco or Sporting Lisbon.
To make the argument that those accomplishments were in 'pub leagues ' may be somewhat valid, to a certain extent. But then again, it is worth remembering that he's always had to work on a tight budget and in both clubs, he had to rely heavily on youth, which is never easy, in terms of being really competitive.
He's also still just 44, which is very young obviously for a coach, and he probably still have a decent progression curve ahead of him. If other guys are available, I'd probably steer towards them first, but if the likes of Poch or Allegri can not be had and Zizou does not want to come to United, I'd have no qualms taking a shot on Jardim, none whatsoever.

Yes. Because he is not an attacking coach. He relies heavily on counters and positional management. He is not the coach who is going to press you for 90 minutes and control the ball.

He manages the game. Does not have a philosophy. I still like him but I think some people on here are acting like he will be the savior.

What we have to do is get our strategy right prior to making any decisions.

If we are going to operate without a DoF then the manager needs to be more of a man management/have a set way of playing while the coaches are the ones focusing on the tactical side to deliver.

if we are going to operate with a DoF then the manager is more of a coach focused on training and the DoF doing the philosophy stuff/vision.

There's more than one way to be an offensive minded coach. You don't have to be a possession based team. In the season where they scored 107 goals they were an excellent counter attacking team that played with two forwards and routinely committed numbers forward in attack.

Nobody is saying he's a savior or even a great coach. But he plays an attacking style and there are few coaches available mid-season with his experience.

Looking at goals per season is deceiving. Mourinho could then be considered an attacking coach.

An attacking coach is someone who shuns their defensive principles to attack. Neither Jardim or Mourinho put attack ahead or their defensive organization.

What screwed Jardim at Monaco was he lost defensive organization when he had it a year ago and started conceding.

Jose was fortunate at Chelsea to have elite attacking talent to overcome his defensive style.

To be fair, it's actually more accurate to say that Mourinho back then was far more adaptable than he is today. As such, he was more susceptible to let his offensive guys play when the situation dictated it. Something we saw with Chelsea, Inter and even at Real. Unfortunately for us, he completely lost that now by the looks of it.
Jardim is very much the same way: he definitely puts an emphasis on organization and being strong defensively. But when he has the players to do so, he will not hesitate to adopt a more expansive style of play. Nothing wrong with a balanced approach.

Reading will be United's 3rd round opponent in the FA Cup early next year.

Thought the cl draw would have been today.

Anyway there is no team I feel comfortable playing from the pool. We might have screwed up not getting the first place. At least if we did finish first some of the second place options seemed less embarrassing.

Winter has come for Manchester United and it could a long and cold one, until that virus of a manager is sent packing.
March/April can not come soon enough, for a dream of spring...

Now would be the perfect time to fire him with an easier schedule coming up.

The options out there are not many for coaches that are willing to be put in this situation.

Zidane cannot fix it. Poch is not going to leave Tottenham.

I actually think we should wait. Install a temp now, and then plan for next year. Get our ducks lined up now for a May/June appointment.

We don't need to have a host of options on the table before actually doing something. We can and should give the team on a temporary basis to Carrick, or Carrick and McKenna and we can take the next 6mos to make a thorough search for the right candidate this time. Getting the DoF that was promised is obviously a must as well.
This team is not as bad as Mourinho has made it to be despite appearances and there is enough to get way more than what we're getting now. There's no question about it...
