Only when Harry got married and Elizabeth tried to manoeuvre around Trump when he barged in front of her. Otherwise I try to ignore the Royals as much as possible (the Mariners too). What?
Like I needed another reason to dislike you... (Just ordering a UW car magnet and license plate frame for the new Mini )
Well, we know how you feel about two universities with Cougar mascots... How do you feel about the University of Houston???
Funny thing is my new company was founded by 3 guys who met at BYU (including my boss). Who does UW host on Sept 29th? Yep, the BYU Cougars. "Don't make me come over there and break you two up..."
Pssst, come here, I'll tell you a secret. Dubs is a Malamute. (Most live husky mascots are actually malamutes because the breed has a better temperament for what goes into being a mascot than huskies do)
Speaking of cougars, did you hear the one about the high school who changed their mascot from a cougar to something else because cougars was considered derogatory to 40+ year-old divorcees?
Change "host" to "obliterate" and you're more accurate. Ah, the life of a college football independent...
I'm sure all the true believers in Provo are hoping that this isn't the case. FWIW, BYU is playing four teams from the PAC12 this year (Arizona, Cal, Washington and Utah), the most of any conference. If they are going to be playing so many teams from the PAC12, why don't they just join the PAC12 and reignite the Holy War.
Good chance the Pac-12 won't take them, for a variety of reasons, some of which would likely take us into the Politics forum.
Without delving too deeply into those reasons, the Pac-12 is composed of largely of large public research universities. Even their two private members are non-sectarian and have more in common with the public members of the conference than they do with BYU.
Yep. Add to that that with Utah already in the conference adding BYU doesn't bring a new TV market. (Also the two private schools, Stanford and USC, have long historical sporting ties to the rest of the Pac-8 teams. If they were being evaluated today without that they might be passed over because they're private but they're core members going back close to a century)
Is the same reason Boise State wont be admitted anytime soon. Too small of a market. Not a research university.
Last I remember 1) I was done with this thread 2) it was a thread on soccer and toast. Here's to hoping this riot doesn't last much longer and we can expel sharing stories from inferior sports. Regardless, it's all due to you @Knave . Thanks.
Boise St also has the issue that they really only have football. The Pac-12 is quite proud of its support and success in most NCAA sports and generally looks for schools that bring things other than football.
As for the market, BYU graduates students in numbers like a public university. The diaspora of BYU grads is not isolated to Provo/Orem. The research university angle I understand, BYU is focused on undergraduate studies and has few programs beyond masters degrees.
