The Slingbox is wonderful technology. A buddy of mine in Heidelberg bought me the set up last year so he can watch NFL football on Sundays. I only have one receiver in my place, which means only one of us can control the TV at a time. But since he bought it, Sunday afternoons during football season belong to him. He has also been known to watch Champions League soccer or random GolTV Bundesliga matches over the slingbox since he doesn't have Premiere in Germany. It is pretty cool for me to be sitting in front of the TV and for him, in Germany, to start changing my channels or checking the what I have saved on my DVR. And yes it does work on a Mac. The hardware is all on my end. The slingbox just has to be hooked up to your cable or satellite receiver and to your internet. The person on the other end then downloads a media player from slingmedia, puts in a password and then starts watching. Note: only one person at a time can watch remotely. I can also watch my TV downstairs on my computer upstairs also with the media player. And you change channels using a simulation of the remote control you would otherwise use. Here is a screen shot of me watching the Masters on my computer (the remote control only shows up when you wave the mouse over the screen). A lot more info can be found here http://www.slingmedia.com/
The second half was awful (simply unbelievable after a strong first half, so the team got booed by the own supporters during the last 10 minutes ... what never occured before), indeed ... but before the interval, Fürth totally dominated Rostock. What happened during the half-time (I've rarely seen such a drop in performance between 2 halves), is a real mystery ... and another evidence of the team's inconsistency. Well, the Fürth fans got used to the "Und täglich grüßt das Murmeltier" slogan ... so another defeat against a team from the relegation zone (Hansa didn't get one single away win before this matchday) was to be expected. It's like a hex. In my eyes, it's almost over now (17 points out of 21 would be a little sensation). At least I'm gonna avoid a possible "moral conflict" (BMG vs Fürth in the play-offs)... Here's today's results with match reports: RWO - Nürnberg 0:3 (0:2) http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/spieltag/spielpaarungsbericht/object/863937 Fürth - Rostock 0:1 (0:0) http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/spieltag/spielpaarungsbericht/object/863938 Ingolstadt - SVWW 0:0 (0:0) http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/spieltag/spielpaarungsbericht/object/863942 Table: http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/spieltag/tabelle/
Damn...must spread..... Great write up Hobo. I was thinking I would get it over in Muenchen at Mediamarkt, set it up and we could have some guys chip in for the cable. I would spring for the box and my share of the cable.
Always dangerous playing relegation teams in April. Also, you end up playing to the level of your opponents. Hansa was abysmal, but GF was just not clicking. Did not see any heart or passion. Did not see any from Hertha either, just could feel they were close. If GF was half awake on that goal it would have been a 0-0 game.
I highly recommend it! If you have a separate box and receiver (that's what she said) then the set-up can be completely yours! I am going to be in Paderborn starting in two weeks (Das heisst Aufstieg!) till mid August and considering being prudent and cancelling DirecTV for the 3 months, but the thought of being able to watch middle-of-the-night Braves baseball all summer is very enticing. Does anybody have any experience with suspending digital services?
Whoa! So when I leave Germany, I can conceivably buy a Slingbox (didn't know they are already being sold here), get my ex to get Premiere on one of her TV's (that I bought anyhow), and I can watch whatever BL match I want each weekend in the USA? That shit is SO getting done! Especially since BVB doesn't seem to want to provide an internet TV service.
Better....you can watch ANYTHING that shows up on the box just like you were sitting in her living room....without having to put up with her.
Eddie....a fellow "The Office" watcher!!!! Hopefully he has lifted his "shun" of "goingdownsouth". Luicky dog!!!! Best time to be in Germany. Footy? My money is on you on this one.
Nope! When I left Texas, I shut everything off. The only thing I maintained was my San Antonio phone number and I pay Vonage for that. When I get back, I just plug my Vonage box back into my cable setup and I have phone service. But seeing that you guys have educated me on slingbox, I'm definitely buying one to set up at my ex's place before I leave here.
The Michael Scott Paper Company. I have lifted my shunning on Goindownsouth. He's aces in my book, just like Dwight and Andy. == Digi service:Yes, you call them up and tell them you will be away for a few months. You still pay the monthly rental fees on the boxes (I think that is right), but not for service. When you come back, you give them a jingle, and tell them when you want service to resume.

Bild.de: Luhukay ab sofort Trainer in Augsburg EDIT: For those who don't read German, it means former Paderborn and Gladbach coach Jos Luhukay will bring his 70's porn star look back to the 2nd Bundesliga as head coach at FC Augsburg effective immediately.
The Augsburg officials seem to be pretty worried concerning the relegation fight. I feel sorry for our former skipper Holger Fach (well, he'll surely find another club soon), but am also happy to see Jos finally back.
I rate him as one of the worst coaches in German pro footy. He managed to bring all of his clubs into relegation trouble. At one or two you can say it´s bad luck, but with his reputation he really needs to reinvent his methods and to have success at his next coaching job.
@ LoewenBoy Stefan Reisinger managed to lose any credit in Fürth, too (after 1860). http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/startseite/artikel/507285/ http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/news/26702/freiburg-verpflichtet-fuerther-stuermer-reisinger.html So the rumours of the last weeks turned out to be true. His club (who had paid almost € 500,000 - that's a lot of money for a club like Fürth - some years ago to 1860 in order to sign a scoreless striker) is playing for promotion ... and Reisinger has nothing better to do but signing a contract with a promotion rival (Freiburg). No wonder he suddenly played so poorly since the Kaiserslautern away game... I could bet that his striker mate Sami Allagui and a few other players are negociating with other clubs as well. Always the same procedure every season (at least the top goalie Lobouè extended his contract until 2012) ... so you don't have to wonder about Fürth's usual collapse in spring.
Good post, thanks. Wow, I certainly hope that is just happenstance and not that he is "tanking" games just to stay healthy for next season OR keep GF from promotion. THAT would really suck. That is what has always pissed me off about Sechzig too: We manage a decent season with a group of good players and they either jump ship OR management fails to sign them OR we sell them. How is GF financially? Do they have the money to keep these players? Or do their books suck like 1860's?
