comme, i registered here just to tell you to edit your last two comments, please. Georgi Asparuhov is from Bulgaria not Romania and i'm very proud with that. He's the best Bulgarian player! I'll quote some from wiki:

*Bulgaria is small country with population of 7-8 million.

Blokhin and Fritz Walter are in other lists (wingers and forwards). The others did not make it.

Been reading through the thread, very good work. One player stuck out to me, and by comparing his resume and those ranked above him, he appears extremely underrated, Jose Aguas. Leading scorer on his team in two European Cup winning campaigns, 267 goals in 262 games in for Benfica domestically. 5 league titles, 5 times top scorer. At the club level his career is very comparable with Eusebio's, although it is not at the intentional level. The votes for the 1961 Balon d'Or are shocking. Won the domestic league with 27 goals and won the European Cup scoring 11 goals but he is tied for 10th place in the Balon d'Or voting. Why did he not get the same type of recognition Eusebio later got for similar exploits? The next year he again captained Benfica to the European cup, this time joined by Eusebio. He scored more goals domestically and in Europe than Eusebio but was voted tied for 11th for the 1962 Balon d'Or while Eusebio nearly won it, coming in a narrow second. Bottom line, to me it looks like his club accomplishments alone should be good enough to get him into the top 50 or so, especially when you compare his accomplishments to guys like Weah and Butragueno.

I firmly believe that if this was based on ability alone, Shearer would be in the top 30. However I accept that a lack of major honours hinders him in this sense and that's the risk you take when opting to represent your boyhood club for the majority of your career. He could've played for most clubs in Europe in his prime. In his early years he was blessed with blistering pace which he lost after suffering an Achilles injury in the early nineties, and even without that he went on to not only be the Premier League's all time top goal scorer, but also England's best ever striker (IMO).

I think neymar does also make a good chance to become one of the best strikers.

I'm over a decade late but I wanted to give my opinions on this. I honestly dont see the argument for Ronaldo Nazario over Romario or Gerd Muller. Yes ability wise hes better then both but they both had much better careers and much better goalscorers.

Yeah, obviously this is a bump of a very old thread, but that stuck out to me too, particularly with regards to Gerd Muller. I think Muller is below Puskas, but I don’t think he’s below Ronaldo Nazario. I’m a bit of a Gerd Muller evangelist though, but I just find his goalscoring record unbelievably compelling, and it gets more compelling the more you dig in (in part because his teams really didn’t do well or score much without him, so it really wasn’t a scenario like with top strikers on this era’s super teams).

Well I don't think there is much between Muller and Ronaldo. The Brazilian was the more individual and exciting player but the German was a more single-minded goalscorer.

I think Romario is hurt by the fact that he only really played one season at the very top level in Europe, at a time when the power dynamic was shifting decisively away from South America. I personally think it's hard to make a case to put him ahead of Ronaldo.
