Thank you! well said. The 1994 final was not lost by Baggio. Baggio Got Italy into the final with one of the best knock-out round performances ever. Sadly, he pulled a hamstring against Bulgaria and was barely 50% for the Final IMO.

The only person I blame for Italy's loss was Sacchi himself. With Baggio in pain and barely able to run or kick, he should have put G. Signori on the field to give Italy a real chance to score. Few remember that he slipped Baggio that great pass to beat Spain in the quarterfinals when Italy seemed resigned to defeat after Spain equalized. That winning goal was impossible without Signori taking the initiative to start the attack.

Sacchi was a fool:mad::confused: for leaving him on the bench and relying on one-legged Baggio to score himself.

Of course, the fact that european teams have no luck outside europe didn't help.

From a neutral perspective I still rate Spain/Yugoslavia(Euro 2000) at the top of my list.

From a biased perspective I still fancy this game: :)

I agree. Sacchi was an idiot. Signori wanted to play as a striker but Sacchi still wanted him on the left-wing. For me, the men who lost the Final for us were Sacchi (for his poor decision-making) and Massaro (he missed a one-on-one chance earlier in the game as well as a penalty).

squidward123, this forum has been around since 1995. When I had originally joined, they would have some writing stating that near the BigSoccer logo.

Damn, I'm old at at 27  ;) There are actually alot of posters on these boards that have been here longer than me. BigSoccer originally was just a soccer board for Metrostars fans, started in 1995. Then it became Soccerboards.com which is where I first found the site in 1998. A couple years later it was rebranded BigSoccer.com

Many blatant omissions on this german magazine list. Too european.

Real - Bayern, Champions Cup, semi-finals, 1987. The best keeper's (Pfaff) performance ever!

Colombia - Cameroon, World Cup, 1990. Two stupid Milla's goals do not mean anything. Colombians showed the highest level possible. In that game they showed who was the genuine world champion that year.

Chile - Brazil, Copa America, 2004. The miracles of Rodrigo Valenzuela and Milovan Mirosevic. Brazil was declassified completely, despite stupid winning goal five minutes to the game.

Argentina - Serbia, World Cup, 2006. Everyone remembers that.

America Cali - River Plate, Copa Libertadores, 2003. Great game which ended with a fight and many great contracts for Colombians.

USSR - Hungary, World Cup, 1986. Poor Hungarians still have not recovered from that huge loss.

Denmark - Nigeria, World Cup, 1998. Show of the Laudrup.

Denmark - Brazil, World Cup, 1998. The Danes should have won.

Mexico - Argentina, Copa America, 2004. The highest class ever of Mexican team and Jesus Arellano in particular.

LOL! This sounds like sour grapes!
Milla's first goal was pure class as he tore past two defenders and shot past Higuita for the first score. I agree that the second goal was stupid, but that was due to the stupid play of 'El Loco'. Milla mearly took advantage.
And Colombia only reached the 2nd round when Freddy scored deep into injury time against the eventual and genuine world champions, Germany.

I thought the thread was about the GAMES, not the games results. Forget about those two goals, recall both halves of that match. Recall what Valderrama, Rincon, Leonel Alvarez and Valencia were doing around the pitch. I can hardly recall anything that impressed me so much. But people tend to remember only the extra-time of that game.

It didn't help that Higuita made that error.

Colombia in that match did create play in most of that match but there were times where some of the players were stiff in their movement or they didn't take enough risks. There were some chances in the first 10-15 minutes that Colombia should have put away. Either Rincon or Fajardo should have scored at least one.

Yeah, I remember that game. Especially Valderrama's "great" acting skills, when he was carried off the field, down into the catacombs of the stadium, only to be carried out again shortly after that and jumping off the stretcher as if nothing had ever happened. And all that after a harmless contact.

This performance alone made me cheer for Cameroon all the way, when they beat Columbia.
And it was probably also part of the reason why the game went into the 98th minute where Columbia scored. I've never before, nor after seen such an extended injury time.

In 2004, when the UEFA existed 50 years and the idea came up to organize an European competition, Four Four Two listed the "50 greatest European moments".
