Will they be retiring his number? I know it's not a "soccery" thing to do, but as MLS grows I hope more teams will do that when players have made a legitimate impact. Ching certainly meets that criteria when it comes to the Dynamo....
To be honest? I kinda hate this. They retired Cobi Jones number during the first 15 years of the club's existence, so now we can never have another number 13?
The Rapids unofficially retired Balboa's 17 for a number of years, not using it after he left until it was given to Burpo as a backup keeper in '08-09. It went idle again but Dillon Serna has it now.
Someone asked about the Opponents.. Here's all the players involved http://www.houstondynamo.com/blog/post/2013/11/14/roster-ching-testimonial-rounding-form edit: i'm actually very excited because it's pretty much like a MLS All Star game without the expensive price. Lower level center seats were just $40 each
I don't know if I would go with "just" $40 for those seats - that's an expensive exhibition IMO, with 3-4 current MLS all-stars. I totally like the idea of the testimonial match for Ching though, and hope I get to watch it via some stream or other. RSL owner Dave Checketts retired Jason Kreis's #9, which a lot of us found more than a little odd. We'd much rather have something akin to a ring of honor like what several other teams have. Maybe if he jumps ship to another MLS team we can un-retire it?
Well the rest of the seats are $25.. $33 after fees.. my center club level lower bowl seats were actually $44 after fees.. or $35 AXS (the dynamo, and i think LA ticketing system) likes to stick a $9 convenience fee on everything. We usually call our STH reps to avoid any fees and the money is going towards Habitat for Humanity/The House that Ching Built so i think the price is just fine
Wow. A lot of those names bring back memories. So glad they're doing this for Chingy. He was one of the hardest-working players in MLS and the USMNT. I think things might have gone differently for the U.S. if he was a part of South Africa 2010. I take it Bob Bradley was not invited to this testimonial.
game was amazing. photos at this link https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10101982116010588.1073741851.16739419&type=1&l=cb7fe806a1
Awesome photos! Great way to pay homage to a player who has done so much for both MLS and the National team. And when else would you ever hear Brian Ching scoring with an assist from Dominic Kinnear?
