Not to turn this into a USMNT discussion but yes, Klinsy would be wise to cap him ASAP especially if he keeps up this scoring rate for BVB II.
Ummm...maybe we should wait before he plays for a first team somewhere? As many people have noted, see Zimmerman, Preston before you go calling for a USMNT call up for a player you haven't seen.
Perhaps Boyd should seriously think about getting at least a loan to a second division side to get some experience on a higher level.
It's his first year at Dortmund, and he's already made the first team bench. Might as well stay the course for the rest of the season.
I know that, but many of the top team still like to give their youth/reserve players a bit of experience in second division teams or lower Bundesliga teams. Witness how Bayern loan out young players and how they profit from that (Alaba at Hoffenheim, Kroos at Bayer Leverkusen). My team, Nuremberg, the last few seasons was chock- full of loan players. Plus, Dortmund's geographical location is also ideally suited, with second division Bochum and Duisburg not far away, Boyd would probably not even have to move house. Also, Boyd is already 22 y.o., isn't he? Considering that the most important time for young players in Germany to establish themselves as pro's is between 18-22 (after that you can't really be called a prospect anymore), I think Boyd is pushing it and should definitely try to get some experience higher up. (Of course there are exception who break out late, thinking of one Miro Klose ) Especially since his club don't seem to be intent on using him this season.
OK, that is true. How close do you think Boyd is to the first team? Would it make sense for him to stay in Dortmund in the hope of getting a few first- team minutes?
He should definitely stay until the summer, this is his first season at the club. Unfortunately for him, Dortmund is playing a system with only one real striker and Lewandowski is currently on fire and so far not very injury prone. They still have Lucas Barrios on the bench, so there's no need for another striker on the bench, Dortmund has lots of proven midfielders on the bench (Polish international Blaszczykowski, German international Gündogan, Croatian International Perisic etc) who wouldn't be happy to be left out completely for a young striker. There might be a change in the next 2 weeks since Barrios wants to leave the club to get more playing time. Question is what Dortmund is planning then. I believe they will sign someone in the winter in this case but if not, Boyd is likely to sit on the bench once or twice (Dortmund still has Mohamed Zidan, I had almost forgotten him ). Would be risky for the club though.
Ah, OK, then he's got a bit more time yet. Confused him with Andrew Wooten, damn, should have checked beforehand.
If Barrios leaves....and he performs, he may have some pretty decent minutes coming up. These are big "if's" though, but certainly a possibility.
Mainz signed Mohamed Zidan from Dortmund. Boyd might be striker No.3 (behind Lewandowski and Barrios now) which means he might sit on the bench a few times in the next months. That is, if Klopp doesn't use Perisic or Großkreutz as a striker.
From a recent interview: BvB_09america: You were called up to play on the 1st team in October 2011 versus FC Cologne, and even though you didn't see the pitch that day, I'm curious...who do you feel is in front of you and your competition for a starting spot on the 1st team? TB: "Yeah that's been a nice experience so far. Obviously Lewandowski is the striker number one at the moment and you can learn a lot from him, then there is Lucas Barrios also an impressive striker and then there are still two other forwards in front of me. So it's not easy to get into the team but it's the tough competition that makes you better." With Zidan gone he might be the #4 forward now. Here is the link. http://www.bvb09america.com/
true American right thurrrrr "Nothing, it's the other way round I prefer American food and there is no french toast and gatorade here.""
They have essentially the same sugar syrup drink as gatorade. I don't recall the name off hand, but it still accomplishes the same goal of making you think you're rehydrating when really it's a non carbonated soda.
http://www.bvb.de/?%E1%80%ECZ%1B%E7%F4%9C%5Ej%E4%85%9E Klopp confirms that Boyd and 17-year old Marvin Ducksch are getting closer to the pro squad now that Zidan has left. In another interview, Klopp is quoted "we will prepare them slowly for bigger tasks". To be honest, Most Dortmund fans are more excited about Ducksch than Boyd, which is no surprise since he's a local Dortmund boy.
