Since they may possibly be having the same name as the CFL franchise, it will probably be something with the letter "R" I'm thinking. One proposed name for the CFL team is the "RiverMen".
The Ottawa Capitals maybe? I've been raking my brain about it too.... aside from that I just keep going back to Fury. (which honestly isn't a very good name IMO)
Time for the traditional "Name That Expansion Team" contest! Story: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/sports...ises+accepting+online+name/7657113/story.html Web sites: http://www.nameourteams.com http://www.nommeznosequipes.com May the winning entry not suck too much.
I tried to come up with a name for the team to enter in the contest. I abandoned my efforts because they all sucked. I don't know much about Ottawa's history that would lend itself to a good name. I think the idea of the Capitals or anything related to being the capital is lame. I don't care much for the Fury either. Is there anything in the history of Ottawa that would be a cool name or do the locals have a preferred name they could share? On another note and off topic - I think they should bring back the Rough Riders name for the CFL team. That was a classic name and at one point was the oldest professional sports team in Canada before folding in the 90's IIRC.
One of the proposed names I've heard a few times is "Capitol City FC". My pick would be "Ottawa Intrepid FC" which was the Ottawa Canadian Soccer League's team name in the 80's minus the "FC". See a proposed Jersey here although they use "SC" instead : http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t94/dmont_01/ottawa_intrepid.jpg Rough Riders are used by Saskatchewan's CFL team and Ottowa cannot use it for their CFL team.
Yeah, I made that one a while back. It's one of my favourites. I've seen it posted around on a few forums, so I hope it catches on. No *ring ring* from the OSEG boys yet, though
Ottawa Confederation FC The crest and shirt sponsor are just place holders, but I'm a big fan of hoops, and black and red ties the team to the Senators.
The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group has confirmed that it received 4,107 entries into its name-the-teams contest. From Dec. 6-16, fans were invited to submit their suggested team names for the Ottawa NASL expansion franchise, which is set to kick off in 2014, and the capital’s new CFL team. The only caveat? Neither the soccer or football teams could carry the names of two long-gone Ottawa CFL teams: Rough Riders and Renegades. Because of copyright and legal issues, OSEG cannot reveal the most popular names chosen for either the NASL or CFL franchises. More news is expected in January — but the only thing about the contest that the new NASL owners could confirm at this time was the number of entriesreceived.
Team name should be announced soon : http://www.ottawasun.com/2013/01/19/new-ottawa-soccer-team-not-about-to-reveal-name-just-yet
I guess we should have seen that coming, good they go with the history, could had been worst. http://nasl.com/index.php?id=3&newsid=3775 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottawa_Fury 'There's only one Bill Peterson!' @BytownBoysSC in strong voices here today! #NameAnnouncement pic.twitter.com/7pMErQtRX8— Ottawa Fury FC (@OttawaFuryFC) February 26, 2013 Team president @johnrpugh announces the team name will be #ottawafuryfc! #NameAnnouncement— Ottawa Fury FC (@OttawaFuryFC) February 26, 2013
They must have decided that if they couldn't have Rough Riders for the CFL team because Saskatchewan was using it, then they should take Winnipeg's old CSL name. I guess Ottawa's old CSL name (Intrepid) was too obvious? It sucks to be this disappointed, this early.
