He’s a bit of an idiot to say the least. Those types don’t always think before they speak.

He didn’t put it on the players though. He was pretty much creating an excuse for them for an awful start and abysmal basic errors.

IMO, USWNT players made Pia looked good more and rode the success of the players. but it doesn’t mean she was a bad coach. Jill Ellis is a great manager of players and assistant coaches who who grew up in the American mentality.

I agree, hire a woman. If not, dare I say hire Paul Ratcliffe from Stanford women, he’s English and happens to be the best college W coach in the country. Another one is Amanda Cromwell from UCLA who also a psychologist.

I don't think Pia was the greatest at tactics, but she was the coach the team needed after the disaster of Greg Ryan.

IMO, Pia was like Pete Carroll in a lot of ways (if you’re familiar with the NFL). She’s all chest bump and relied on assistant coaches on scouting and tactics.

The team that loses the 3rd place game goes home with two straight losses. Bummer.

Wonder if Rolfo wasn't out for the semi, things might have been different.

Jill Ellis would be a perfect fit to manage England. I doubted her ability to adopt the ever changing women’s game after winning in 2015 and losing the 2016 Olympic podium, but so far I’m happy to say I’m wrong.

Yep. And the "chest bump" attitude is exactly what was needed in 2008.

If that works, it works. And it did. One might be a poor manager up front, but if that manager knows how to bring together coaches who can coach a team and create a team, then that is a successful manager.

For me, either Asllani or Jacbosson.

Removing Asllani really seemed to change the match and Sweden's control of the midfield. Jacobsson was a threat all match.

I hate this but I have no idea what the LOTG say about it. I don't see how you can blame the attacker when they're being jostled and pushed by a defender. I'm going to assume by the LOTG this is a handball, but it's stupid. Ellen White unlucky with VAR again.

As a fan of Asllani, I'm really pleased with her performance in this WWC.

She provided a lot of creativity and important goal/assist to the team, along with a lot of running. She suffered a lot of fouls but was able to get up again and again.

I was surprised to see her starting actually, she suffered a hit on the neck and was able to go back and provide a goal, what a heroine.

Had to google her, didn’t even realise she’s English. Yeah, I would take her over Phil ‘ sore loser ‘ Neville! To be honest, very disappointed with his comments. I do wish some English managers would engage brain before they speak, it’s just embarrassing for us English.

Very well done to the Swedes, I’ve been getting the full ribbing tonight in my household and don’t mind to be honest, it puts a smile on their faces.
