    Kuwait - Syria 1-0

We were completely outplayed especially in the second half, we hit the bar form a long range shot in the 1st half, that was our only chance in the match. And as usual the goal was in the 93th minute.

I think finally if we continue like that,I´ll never follow our NT results...if they qualified to AC,than it´s time to be pleased.

ACL berths beckon Kuwait and Al Karamah
Being left out of the 2009 AFC Champions League was a bitter pill for Kuwaiti and Syrian clubs to swallow.

But they accepted their fate with patience and a determination to return to the elite fold without delay. And the ultimate reward is close at hand with Kuwait SC and Syria’s Al Karamah knocking on the doors for an ACL return.

Both teams were involved in the 2008 ACL. However, after AFC introduced new criteria for 2009 based on professional standards, clubs from Kuwait and Syria found out that they could only play in the second-tier AFC Cup.

By reaching the AFC Cup final, where Kuwait SC prevailed 2-1 over Karamah, they have a chance to return to the elite fold after a one-year absence.

They are among eight clubs eligible to compete in the play-offs for the 2010 AFC Champions League.

Kuwait SC played in Group B of the 2008 ACL, finishing bottom after gaining only one win. Also in the group were Iran’s Saipa, who advanced to the quarter-finals, Al Quwa Al Jawiya, of Iraq and UAE’s Al Wasl.

Karamah, the 2006 ACL runners-up, reached the last eight of the 2008 competition by winning Group C, which also comprised UAE’s Al Wahda, Al Sadd, of Qatar and Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.

They were then beaten 4-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals by Japan’s eventual champions Gamba Osaka.

Only two berths in the group stages of next season’s ACL are available, of which only one is from the West. Also gunning for a West place are India’s Churchill Brothers and Al Wahda, from United Arab Emirates.

The eastern teams comprise Indonesia’s Sriwijaya, Singapore Armed Forces, Thai champions Muang Thong United and SHB Da Nang, of Vietnam.

While next year’s ACL is the immediate goal, longer term ambitions remain to bolster the leagues in Kuwait and Syria to ensure greater professionalism in order to meet AFC’s criteria for direct entry.
