Well I hope that puts and end to the "European teams can't win in S. America" talk.

swiss won on stoppage time. game was only seconds away of being a tie. this win is nothing to brag about but it does put them in great position. congratz to them.

The Ecuador defender was at fault for the last goal, he was well ahead of the Switzerland forward but he just strolled around.

I thought the talk was that European teams can't win the World Cup in South America.

To be honest, I thought a draw would be a lot more fair as a result...

Ecuador went "All-In" without any legitimate reason .... And lost!

I just changed the title of the thread to get rid of the spoiler. Please do not post the results of matches in the title.

    Thanks.

I was unimpressed with what Switzerland did after they equalized so with five minutes left I was like "we've got our first draw of the World Cup" and left! Um, right. Seriously though both teams seemed content with the draw and Switzerland were not really willing to risk anything going forward it didn't look like. Did that change in the dying minutes of the game or was that goal the result of a last ditch attack just for the hell of it?

a counter by the swiss and ecuadors lack of urgency to run back in the last minute of stoppage time was the difference.

Yeah Ecuador defended very poorly on both goals especially the winning Swiss goal...So in the next match whoever gets a win between Ecuador and Honduras sends the other team packing...Things do not look too good for Honduras...

I still remember Switzerlands goal to beat Spain in 2010....when the forward did a flip and play continued for the goal. Epic!

Ecuador can still bounce back if they win their next match against Honduras. However they are likely to need a victory over France in their last group game...Still manageable but Antonio Valencia will need to raise his game because he was barely visible in the Switzerland game...

It used to be that they can't win a World Cup outside Europe...
