I agree, Seferovic has done nothing all season. The lack of scoring for Switzerland has baffled me. Lots of good midfielders, but few forwards with the "killer instinct"
Hi 'All' The action is soon to start. I'm 'underwhelmed' about their prospects. They're quite capable of springing a surprise v Brazil....and losing to Costa Rica. The Serbia game could be 'tasty' (Yugoslav connections) As ever with the Swiss, it depends on how well their GK/defence/midfield performs......as opposed to their 'attack' I'd be happy to be proved wrong and Seferovic (or someone) scoring a 'hat trick' in every game ;-)
1-1 vs Brasil. Just once I would like people to give the Swiss their just due. Most of the articles I read about the match were so Brasil centric that it was sad. Only one or two actually said that the Swiss were the reason Brasil could never really get into the match, or that the reason so many of the shots went wide was that the Swiss defense forced bad shots from difficult angles, etc.
2-1 for the Swiss. Great goal by Xhaka and a dagger at the end. The Swiss lucky to have not been called for a PK. I wonder if Shaqiri and Xhaka get fined by FIFA for the double headed eagle hand gesture when the scored. Kosovo, Serbia political etc.
2-2 vs Costa Rica. Odd game, not smart Yellow by Schar. Next up Sweden in the round of 16. I do like this match-up, but not that the team will be without two defenders.
Pretty much as I expected. Regretably the swiss can never seem to go the extra mile/kilometer/round. I was hoping/expecting a start for Drmic and Embolo. Shame an own goal decided things. A QF v England would've been nice. Our media treated the Swe v Swz match with disdain. They regard both countries as 'boring' Anyway, onwards/upwards, and I trust RTA will start a 'Road to Euro2020' soon. Best to avoid Serbia/Bosnia/Albania/Kosovo/Turkey though ;-)
One final thought. The President of the Swiss Football Federation has said that it is possible that dual-nationals might no longer play for the Swiss Youth National teams in the future. This shortsighted policy is rebutted quite well here.
