I'll be the odd one out, I don't know much about Vallejo, but IMO Pepe was/is as technical as any defender out there, yes he was physical/ strong but he also was smart, could pass long and short was actually very good with the ball at his feet and was more than capable of bringing the ball out from the back and starting attacks, read the play as well as anyone and was good with his positioning even when Moooooo played him in midfield to break up the play he displayed technical ability ( again IMO) I think he was the most well rounded defender we had ( and for Portugal too) I think he could have taught Vallejo quite a lot if he was still here actually, but, again, that's just me
Vallejo does seem to rely more on anticipation and technique rather than pace or physicality. One of the reasons why he gets beaten in the air a lot of the times. Not that Vallejo's development is linked to Ramos but I was wrong about him turning out to be a good captain and leader so perhaps he'll be a good mentor and teacher as well. Regardless, I think Vallejo will be just fine.
Yeah, it's not like Pepe until the age of 28 was relying significantly on his pace either. We'll just pretend that didn't happen.
I havent seen him play much but he seems to be pretty fast in this video. Reminds me of Varane. Vallejo sacando el balón en Hamburgo: pic.twitter.com/k4YJAwgP0B— Sergio Santomé (@Sergio_Santome) October 21, 2016

http://www.marca.com/futbol/real-madrid/2017/08/11/598d8a60ca4741de1f8b4572.html Vallejo out for 2 weeks with a muscle injury in training today.
He's had quite a few injuries starting from Zaragoza days. Concerning. Maybe signing Meunier won't be a bad idea as that would allow Nacho to be full time CB.
Which as far as I am concerned Nacho should be, he should not be "essential" for covering both positions IMO
OT: The more videos I see of Vallejo, the more I'm starting to realize he would be immense as a CDM. Excellent ball carrier, strong positioning and has a great passing range. He has a bit of everything of the qualities those great Spanish DM’s like Pep, Senna, Albelda, Busquets and Alonso had. I’d even argue that his profile as a CDM looks better than Llorente’s.
By the way, Jesus Vallejo is yet to play a single official minute. His history with injuries is quite worrying for Real Madrid right now.— Lucas Navarrete (@LucasNavarreteM) September 19, 2017
Injury concerns aside, I think hes a quality player. A bit soft right now, but that should change hopefully playing alongside Ramos, Nacho, Carva etc.
He's very soft, and I don't mean that from a injury proness perspective. He's relatively skinny and not that tall, but what do I know about defending
"He isn't happy on the bench even at Real Madrid"After an impressive LaLiga debut against Las Palmas, does Jesus Vallejo deserve a starting spot for @realmadriden? 👇https://t.co/IscARDB0HU pic.twitter.com/mVFSBCdX3x— MARCA in English 🇺🇸 (@MARCAinENGLISH) November 10, 2017
Because if their headline is asking whether Vallejo deserves a starting spot after one start, even if the content of the article is decent, you can't get past the stupidity of the headline.
Unless he's got the brain of a cabbage he'd be okay with his current situation, since you know, he's been fit for only a month so far in the season...
