Jesús Vallejo has returned to Real Madrid as he works to recover from an injury sustained while on loan at Frankfurt and will join Zinedine Zidane’s first team squad ahead of the 2017-18 season. Vallejo arrived in the Spanish capital on Sunday afternoon and was a spectator during the Clásico. The central defender picked up an injury in training with the Bundesliga club last week that will rule him out for around six weeks and Madrid decided to bring him back early from his loan to continue his rehabilitation at the club’s training facilities. Pepe replacement Vallejo is expected to fill Pepe’s place in the squad with the Portuguese defender likely to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires. 3 to Theo. Always found it strange as a CB number. Same when Varane had 2. I have not seen much of Vallejo, but I hope he comes in and slots in right away as Asensio did. The business we have done recently in getting younger players and loaning them out has been working very nicely. Long may it continue.

Injuries have been mentioned as a worry, has he suffered multiple niggling injuries or something particularly serious in Germany last season because he was out of action for a while wasn't he?
