I like your lineup with Martial and Herrera back in the squad. With cover being provided in Herrera having Rash track back or Martial doesn't make sense, that being said Martial would be preferred.

Martial deserves a run out after his excellent cameo. Some positive reinforcement from Jose would help wth his confidence, which is crucial for a player like him.
If Jose can get Martial going, between him, Lukaku and Rashford alone, that's a trio that can cause major damage this season.
Believe that Jose is going to go 4-3-3, because even though Swansea are no major threat, Jose is not about to take chances being on the road for the oppo's home opener. They'll be up for this. At least at the start and even without Sigi, their midfield with Fer and Carroll especially, are the real source of danger on their team. Abraham will need looking after upfront, but Bailly and Jones will have him on lockdown.

it kind of felt like José was still experimenting with that lineup. we'll see what he does though

no reason to change anything. Herrera to me is Martial to some. I think the spanish hardman needs to play but no point in changing anything. if he is experimenting, then the experiment is working. no need to change anything.

in the words of the famous orator Charles Oakley "if it ain't broke, don't fcuking break it!"

Sometimes you stick with what worked in the last game and sometimes you make a tweak or two. This is clearly an occasion to make a tweak or two.

I think Ander and Anthony are both in our best xi. However, I think Ander is best suited to play 8/6. Given our problems scoring, it makes more sense to play one of Mata/Mkhi ahead of Ander. If we had a genuine winger to play on the right and we could free said winger ad Martial by playing a central trio then it would be different. Until such time the stability of a midfield trio is only really necessary with teams against whom we would struggle.

3 points by any means is a fine result. Let's get some momentum going.

even if we play with the "negative" or "defensive" football from last year?

A dour defensive game won't get the best out of Lukaku who will become disinterested and stop running. 3 points important, but I want to see attacking football. Want to see more synergy between Pogba/Matic.

Attacking football. This is it. I ll be in DC this weekend will probably hit the Ireland four courts the closest to where I am staying.

I'd love to see a front three with Rash on the right Martial on the left and Lukaku uptop. Free role for Pogba, Herrera and Matic coordinating.

Spot on. It's hard to imagine Jose doing anything but licking his chops at the prospect of tearing Swansea apart -- but calling probably calling off the dogs after 0-4 and letting fringish players get some minutes.

Expect a win, above all else. They may appear weak, but they're still a well coached team, who should be well organized.
    I see a 0-2 win.

Question... no Zlatan, no Rooney... who takes PKs? Pogba? Lukaku? Mata?

    Call it either 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 (with Pogs at #10 / ACM is either), but I would like to see the following;

    ------------------ Lukaku
    --Martial -------Pogba -----Rashford
    -------------Matic - Herrera
    Darmian - Jones - Bailly - Valencia
    -------------------- DDG

With Mikhi / Mata off the bench later.

I know Rash isnt a natural fit that side but if we are not signing a wide player this window then we need options other than Mata and Mikhi there and of the other attacking players Rash is best least worse option at providing crosses for Lukaku.

Plus would love to see a front four of Lukaku / Pogs / Martial / Rash.

Chances of this are 0% :)

Valencia's in, just omitted him by accident.

That's actually a good question and at first thought, might not be that straightforward or obvious. My guess is that Lukaku will get first crack, as our expected top scorer.
If he fails too often, Mata could be a good shout, even if he's not a nailed starter.

Would absolutely love to see a front 3 of Lukaku, Rashford and Martial as well. The one glaring issue with it and probably why we won't see it much (at least to start games) is that we are left with no real CF off the bench.
With Zlatan coming back that could change though. But the speed and power of that offensive combo is fun to think about.
