15 years ago today River played Boca in El Monumental in what was Maradona's last ever match. The game finished 2-1 to Boca, although River when onto to win the championship for the 3rd consecutive tournament.

Some of the players who performed in that game include: Maradona, Diego Latorre, Martin Palermo, Claudio Caniggia, Juan Roman Riquelme, Nolberto Solano, Jorge Bermudez, Oscar Cordoba for Boca

For River there was Mono Burgos, Leonardo Astrada, Sergio "la Bruja" Berti, Celso Ayala, Hernan Diaz, Marcelo Gallardo, Marcelo Salas, Juan Pablo Sorin, Eduardo Berizzo, Santiago Solari.. injured for the game and unable to play was River's captain Enzo Francescoli.

Obviously, its not necessary to go so far back, but the fact that today marks the end of Maradona's career 15 years ago, and also a time when river and boca were amongst the top teams in the world, not just argentina or south america.

My enthusiasm for the Superclasico hasn't gone down at all, I'm so pumped for the game, but you look at the names and you relive the games of that era and you see just how poor the futbol played in Argentina is at the moment.

The names listed for both teams were giants not just in Argentine futbol, but in the world. They were full internationals for Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay... These were people who played mundiales and copa americas, who won big things in europe, won copas

Who of the current River/Boca players would make it into the side 15 years ago? The only player who approaches the stature of any of those players mentioned is David Trezeguet, the rest quite frankly are lucky to be on the 2 biggest teams in the country.

Based on that, present day's Trezeguet wouldn't do it either, but the Trezeguet of 15 years ago, more likely.

Also Maradona's Boca of the 90s was horrendous, it was overhyped. Remember Dolberg for example?

I was at that game.River were probably the best team in the World at the time.Certainly the best of those not doped like Juve.
River had the likes of Salas.Gallardo.Sorin.Berti Placente and a host of others.Boca in 97 had begun to improve with Cordoba Bermudez Solano Caniggia etc

River undoubtedly, but Boca needed a serious cleaning which they got by 1998.

No es solo el superclásico. Es todo el futbol Argentino que está en decadencia. En realidad, todo el país está en decadencia. Es triste. Dios quiera que la gente se despierte y cambie la situación.
