Football is filled not only with rivalries, but also with indelible memories. Thanks, Frank Lampard, for your contributions to the game! pic.twitter.com/r64JyTgvPM— FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) February 2, 2017
Jody Morris had a nice tribute on his Instagram regarding Frank as well. Favorite Lampard goal? I've always been fond of that goal against Bayern in 05. The way he chested it down and then turned, and boom. I was 13, maybe 14 when he signed for Chelsea? All for 11m too.
His best goal was that "cross" against Barca, probably, which I don't think he meant as a cross. Of course, my favorite goal was the first one at Bolton to win the first league title under Jose.
What bugs me is how so many people on this site tried to discredit him. Ranging from the way the team was built, to penalties, and to deflections. I mean, the guy was behind Ronaldinho for player of the year FFS! Too much of a freak goal for me. Still great. The Bayern one just because of the individual technique involved. Bolton goes without saying. I'm partial to him scoring the goal to overtake Tambling when he scored against Aston Villa.
#Lampard retires from football today after an incredible career. My favorite goals are the ones he scored off a ricochet. Bc that's the only type of goals he scored. Also, from purely emotional standpoint, his PK against Pool after his mom passed.
Good luck with your future Frank #Lampard ! It was an honour to play vs a captain like you. #ADP10 pic.twitter.com/RkICFZ0Vsl— Alessandro Del Piero (@delpieroale) February 2, 2017
Didn't see JT's comments on Frank yet so posting them here. Great read and yes it's getting dusty here cutting up these onions. @franklampard has today announced his retirement from football. The GREATEST player in the history of our great football club @chelseafc It was an absolute pleasure playing with you mate and seeing first hand the dedication and hard work you put in, on and off the pitch, the best trainer by a million miles every single day, inspiring me and everyone at the club. I miss you next to me in the dressing room and miss you grabbing a bag of balls after training when everyone went inside. You stayed out working on your finishing, 20 goals a year wasn't good enough for you, every year you wanted 25,30 goals I love that about you ⚽️ I will miss you getting 4 cones and doing sprints after training setting the example for the kids in the academy. All the great memories together winning trophy after trophy year after year I will never forget you have won everything and should be extremely proud. It's been my pleasure and honour to play and experience all those great moments with you. 648 appearances ( we nearly caught Peter Bonetti and Ron Harris ) 211 goals ⚽️ unbelievable achievement A gentleman both on and off the pitch, leader in the dressing room and if I could choose one person next to me in the trenches it would be you. A great dad to your two beautiful girls and I'm proud to call you my mate Good Luck for the future, whatever you choose to do will be a huge success Love Ya Lampsy LEGEND HERO INSPIRATION + THE BEST EVER
LOL. I love Liverpool fans...possibly the most delusional fans in the history of this sport. http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/thanks-for-the-memories-stevie-g.2037120/page-2#post-35093438 I will miss the old Lampard vs Gerrard debates with Matt Clark.
Maybe it's the statins but, IIRC, Clarkey had a pretty good idea of Frank's quality. I'm not saying he'd agree with us but he realised how great a player the guy was for us.
That said, I think 09-10 was Frank's best season. He was unbelievable looking back. He'd have been perfect for Costa.
