Impact losing $11-12 million per year. Season ticket base is only 9k and average seat price is only $32. Atlanta makes $2 million per match while Impact only at 500k. https://www.tsn.ca/saputo-says-impact-losing-millions-per-season-1.1191058 https://www.journaldemontreal.com/2...pact-victime-dune-injustice-selon-joey-saputo
those numbers dont make any sense do they? so they make ~$4.5 million before expenses on tickets ex concessions and payroll is about $11 million
Front office expenses, salaries for coaching staff, $1.5 million/year for their academy, $2million/year in property taxes, other taxes, travel costs, maintenance costs, cash calls from MLS etc, etc.
I don't see how Montreal's attendance can be considered that bad. There is certainly worse in MLS. If it's still not good enough, that would seem to be a problem.
Why does anyone believe any figures stated by an owner about losses? MLS is one league where there is no incentive to boast about finances, and plenty of incentive to make the situation seem like Armageddon.
You want to have a couple of days off so you write the story and set it to run at an appropriate time?
Even if his plight is exaggerated... This is why most long-time US soccer fans want to make sure MLS continues to seek secure financial footings rather than chase visions of pro-rel, abolishing salary caps, etc. The game is on fair footing but not exactly bedrock. Too many teams are 1-2 bad seasons away from feeling a real pinch.
I'll predict that IF the sale of Columbus Crew is completed...MLS will find a way to pull the rug out from under Frat boy Tony and his Austin project. He has embarrassed the investors enough.
As delightful that may be I'm sure they'll see following through on Austin (with or without PSV) as an obligation. Minimize the bad blood and all that.

The number isn't believable as a P/L number. Back of the envelope-ing it, though, it's believable as a revenue 'loss' between what they're earning and what they could be in a fancier stadium. A slight attendance increase and slight concession and merch increase and $10 more per regular ticket * 20k attendance * 20 events a year gets you about half way there or a little more. Then figure suite revenue and better in-stadium advertising (and does he get any parking? that number would go up too) and the number makes sense. He's basically posturing that a $50M investment in stadium upgrades to get $10M more a year in revenue is worth it, but it's a lot less worth it if it also includes $2M more a year in taxes. I would respond in hushed tones that it's still probably worth it, but he's trying to get a tax break from the local government, so he's representing that he wouldn't do that.
The Impact's numbers for 2018 are probably affected by Piatti's backloaded contract. The numbers would look less dire for 2017 with Piatta at 4 mil less.
