Discuss all transfers involving Irish players here.

Lee Carsley has left European-bound Everton for Championship side Birmingham City.

Looks like Richard Dunne is set to sign for Spurs for 5 million. Good move.

Mark Hughes arrival at Man City could mean that Dunne in fact stays on there. Not sure what the change in management could mean for Steven Ireland, though, or Steven Reid at Rovers.

As somewhat of a Newcastle fan it would be sad to see Given leave Newcastle after all these years, certainly one of my favourite players there, but on the other hand, it would also be nice to see him given a shot at Arsenal.

no way that's going to happen.

if, and it's a huge if, Aiden was to leave it wouldn't be for a derisory offer like the one above.

from everything i've heard he wants to stay at Celtic for another 2 years before trying one of the big leagues.

    Palermo close on Irish talent
    Sunday 15 June, 2008
Palermo are preparing a swoop for Irish teen sensation James McCarthy from Hamilton Academical.

The 17-year-old was instrumental in his club’s ascendancy to the Scottish Premier League and only signed a three-year contract in May.

However, he is expected to move on with Manchester United and Liverpool already showing an interest.

The chances of first team football there are slim, so McCarthy could be tempted to join the Serie A mid-table side in Sicily.

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has commented on his own bid for the Irish international, who was born in Scotland but elected to play for the Republic of Ireland.

“We have been following James for some time,” Zamparini told the Daily Record.

“We know all about his capabilities as a player. We have been told that his value has risen to around £4m, but we have made Hamilton an offer based on what we are prepared to pay.”

The creative midfielder already has an Italian connection, as he made his Under-17s debut against the Azzurri in January 2007 and is due a promotion into Giovanni Trapattoni’s senior squad.

    How good is this kid?

    FNU,

no offence to the lads on the Irish board but you may be better making a seperate thread or researching the Scottish forum as there is/was a thread on him.

a few of the regulars that post there follow lower table teams and have seen him in action a number of times.

Neither have I, but some of the Irish Celtic fans (all 3 million of them) seem to think he is hands down our best player. I've watched maybe one Celtic match over the past 3 years, but whenever I have watched McGeady play for Ireland he's been nothing special.

Reports today suggest that McCarthy will stay at Hamilton for at least one more year.

Kieran Westwood has signed for Coventry City. Will he be their first choice goalkeeper?

i'd still be absolutely astonished if Aiden left to join Sunderland. he's stated he wants to stay at Celtic for another 2 or 3 years before he moves on.

it's easy to come to that conclusion but the guys that have posted about him have watched him in the lower divisions and haven't been overly impressed.

Fair enough, but outside of Keane he doesn't have many options up front to play the ball. He has been know where near form for the IRE but that has a lot to do with the players abilites that he is suronded by. I think Trap may play a bit more to his style but until we actually get strikers who can score more than once upon a blue moon. He will never play up to his true ability for the IRE.

Well, (and I don't want to get into this debate, if I'm wrong then I'm wrong) he can't switch at this point anyway
