It is a rule for every edition of the tournament: the championship title match moves to the last slot. That caveat was announced back in December 2018. Look at the statement marked with two asterisks. It is common sense, if you think about it. If the original schedule was followed, then the championship title match (BRA-ARG) would be played first... less excitement for the rest of the day, if you already know that ARG is champion. The organizing committee only pushed the 2ndA_vs_2ndB match to the bottom of the stack, the rest of the original match schedule remains untouched. There is no conspiracy against Ecuador or Uruguay here.
Oh ok... Never mind then. I didn't know that the main objective was "excitement". BTW what happens to the "excitement" if neither Ecuador or Uruguay win?
Here's a complete breakdown of what every team needs either to be champion or qualify to the world cup: Argentina (already qualified for WC) To be champions... a) Win or b) draw + both URU and ECU not winning their games by 3 or more goals. In the case ECU wins by exactly 3 they also would have to score at least 4 goals. or c) lose + both URU & ECU not winning. Uruguay To be champions... a) Win by 3 or more goals + ARG draw + ECU not winning by a bigger margin than them or b) Win + ARG loss + ECU not winning by a bigger margin than them To qualify for world cup... a) Avoid losing by more than 1 goal or b) In case they lose by more than 1 goal: VEN not winning Ecuador To be champions... a) Win by 3 or more goals + ARG draw + URU winning but by lower goal margin than them or b) Win + ARG loss + URU not winning To qualify for world cup.... a) Avoid losing by 2 or more goals. or b) COL not winning Colombia To qualify for world cup... a) Win or b) draw + VEN not winning + BRA not winning by 3 or more goals or c) in case of loss: VEN loss + BRA not winning Venezuela To qualify for world cup... a) Win by 2 or more goals or b) Win by 1 goal + COL not winning or c) Draw + COL loss + BRA not winning or d) in case of loss: hope COL loses by 5 goals (adding one more goal proportional to the amount of goals VEN loses by) + BRA not winning Brazil To qualify for world cup... a) Win + COL & VEN loss or b) Win by 3 or more goals + COL & VEN draw NOTE: there are some additional permutations between the teams that have 7 and 4 points but I didn't include them in this because they all require crazy scores like 6-4 victories or 4-4 draws, etc the post would be too long if I had to write them down.
From the scenarios that @pipinogol posted, clearly the "excitement" would shift to a 33% possible elimination of URU/ECU from u20 WC, if Argentina loses to Brazil. The new schedule incentivizes ECU to play for 2 prizes, instead of 1 with the original schedule.
Uruguay 0-0 Colombia Uruguay and Ecuador have qualified for the world cup, but only Ecuador still has chance for the title. Brazil now needs to beat Argentina by 3 goals to qualify and also hope Venezuela doesn't win. Venezuela needs to win by any margin to qualify. Colombia needs for neither of the stuff I mentioned to happen in order to qualify.
Congrats Ecuador, the best team is the champion. A pity to lose with just a massive blunder from one player, but he was playing out of position today since we had only one CB available for this game. Hope we have more luck with injuries at the WC. All things considered this was better than I expected before the tournament.
Crazy title race. Our friend @guri had nothing to worry about for Ecuador, after all. Let us hope that each squad has a good run in Poland 2019. Looking forward to what Campana can do there.
Can’t wait to see our guys play at the WC,hopefully we can represent SA in the best possible way!go Mini-Tri!
