Strikers sign Brazilian-born midfielder Rubens Pinheiro

 

Win vs. FAU 3-0 to wrap up the preseason. King scored as well, with Rubens adding 2, including an Olimpico from the corner flag!

18-0 scoreline for all 6 games. Now to translate that into regular season results!

Got my season tickets in the mail today. I guess they're giving the bonus tickets only for a specific game TBA. Kind of disappointing, but understandable.

 

That seems to be the case. According to the enclosed letter from Mulroy we'll get extra giveaway tickets for selected games of the Strikers choice, too.

 

As I understand it the tickets for games "14 & 15" are for any home USOC game(s) or a friendly or something.

 

I just noticed that the Strikers store is no longer online. You have to call their phone number. No pictures online of what their merchandise is.

Every other club has an online shop. (Minnesota seems to be rebuilding theirs after their rebrand.) Just sayin'.

 

Nothing new. They are usually the worst with their online store.

They are introducing the new kits, etc, tonight. Maybe we'll see something in the next week or so.

ETA: Just went to the strikers dot com store. They have 2 game jerseys for sale at a special price and several T-shirts (including a "Los Strikers" T-shirt I've never seen before) and a scarf. None of the items look familiar. Good for them....

 

Go figure. The day after I mention it they put up some merch pictures.

I like that retro t-shirt, but I would never buy a stupid ringer. Why that fashion ever came back I'll never know. And are those the new jerseys? Looks like they are slowly getting back to the old look. 2011 - hoops back but too narrow. 2012 - wider hoops but wrong order. 2013 - correct order but what's the deal with the giant wordmark across the chest? It's even bigger than the old days.

 

Those are the new ones, as are the Ts and the scarf. There was supposed to be an alternate black jersey, but TPTB in Brazil hate/fears black so there will not be a 3rd jersey this year. Please direct all questions to the Strikers FO....

The fact that these are online before the "official" announcement tonight may be attributed to Tom Mulroy. He seems to be a stickler for getting stuff like this in front of the fans & public ASAP, if not sooner.

 

will the Strikers use a 4-2-3-1 formation ?

 

When your primary is red and gold hoops and your secondary is gold, seems like a third is almost necessary (although they shouldn't have any clashes with other NASL clubs, just potential US Open cup opponents). A solid white kit would be a nice change.

I agree with both of you about the 3rd kit. I heard several people that remember the jersey shown above and said they'd love to have it back. I like that particular one. But, from the conversation I heard form the fans Saturday most would like a dark one (charcoal) that matches the socks and shorts. I see their point. Either one would do, IMO.

The Strikers do have a tweet that the home jersey will always be a variation on red & yellow hoops. In it's way, that makes sense. It is traditional and easily identifiable.

 

Are there pics of the second kit or is it unchanged from last season? Seems kind of lazy to not have a second choice pair of shorts and socks.

Yes. 4-2-3-1 is the way to go when you need to put Foley, Anderson and Restrepo onto the field at once.
The team has played that formation all preseason, though I don't think that will be the exact XI we see on Saturday.

 

Titanole told it like it is. The day I made that post there were 6 new items in the store. Next day it was as you've seen it. If memory serves the 2013 jerseys were a few cents cheaper than the 2012 jerseys now being featured. Interesting marketing concept.

 

it was there last saturday, it had a pretty dark picture of the 2013 jersey, so dark ''strikers'' on the red stripe was pretty unreadable
