YouTube TV boasts the best Cloud DVR among cable replacement streaming services. Hulu + Live TV is worthy. fuboTV offers a nice array of soccer content. My wife wants the DVR so we are likely headed that route, but not until PS Vue shutters things at the end of January. Remember that last month is free.
Thanks, after troubleshooting I was pretty convinced this was a YTTV on Roku issue and not something on my end, your experience exactly mirrors mine so confirms what I was thinking. It's those little annoyances that have kept cutting the cord from being a total success. On my android tv, I use the hdmi ARC to send sound to my receiver. Every app I have installed works fine with the default setting for sound quality which is compressed dolby or whatever the source says. Everything that is, except HBO Now. To watch HBO I have to change the auto setting to PCM. Then I get stereo only sound. It's not a deal breaker, but I certainly want to watch a lot of the HBO shows with surround sound, there's quite a bit lost in the experience with 2 channel and sort of defeats the purpose of having a nice sound system. Every time I have to do 14 button clicks in to go back and forth between HBO and Hulu I have to remind myself that I'm saving well over $1000 a year since dropping cable.
My coolest ARC discovery was when I casted a quad version of Jefferson Airplane's edition of Wooden Ships on YouTube from my iPad to our TV and it actually played in quad on our 5.1 setup. I assumed compression would have taken the signal down to stereo. Wow! I went down that rabbit hole that evening. Sadly, there was a shocking amount of Barbara Streisand in quad and no more Grace Slick.
That's three of us but I already decide to go with Youtube.tv after checking out the channel guide. I'll save on Starz, have to add HBO and Hallmark for the wife. My bill overall will go down and I'll get all of the local channels with it versus most of them.
I recently read an article about how Roku “and another streaming devise that I can’t remember” will need replaced soon or some of the streaming services won’t work with them any longer.
I heard that too. Just sharing in the interests of transparency. Right. But wanted to be clear in letting readers know that those two channels are not (currently) included in the YouTube TV lineup. (I couldn't live without This Old House on Saturday mornings)
Ahh, but that depends on reception. Ours in the Rural Hinterlands is quite spotty. We do donate and have Passport access, which is great for watching out of market PBS content. It lets me watch Columbus Neighborhoods when I need a dose of the Bus. We were also able to watch Ken Burns Country Music on demand. Still, not all of KET's (KY PBS) programming is on the PBS app. Hopefully KET is part of YouTube TV's locals by the end of January.
I combine the OTA channels with my Amazon Recast DVR box so I can even watch them later in the day if so needed.
I use YouTube TV with Amazon Fire TV sticks. I also have HDHomeRun for OTA TV. Happy with both services.

I was listening to This Old House by CSNY today. @TKyle during the dark times were you the one who had suggested it was a song that reminded you of what Precourt was trying to do to our house? I cannot listen to that song without thinking of those times.
That song came to mind for me back in those dark days; I think I did post that, but it could have been another like-minded person. I scrounged up that song last night and listened to it again. It's hard not to think of Mapfre as "this old house." And there's a line about "Daddy, and how he always made things work when the chips were down." LH, without question. This Old House of ours was built on dreams, And a businessman don't know what that means. There's a garden outside she works in every day, And tomorrow morning, a man from the bank's gonna come and take it all away... For those who want to check out the song (live version from a Farm Aid): Dang it. I really have to change out the furnace filter. Too much dust.
