The latest expansion pack for Star Trek Online (a game which primarily takes place in the Prime Universe about 30 years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis) now allows you to create a character and play in the DIS time period as well. "Star Trek Online ‘Age Of Discovery’ Launches, Features Voices Of Mary Wiseman and Jeffrey Combs" (Tuesday, 10/9/18) -G
Yeah, it was pretty annoying. From the rumors, the shorts were meant to be a cheap way to make up some money from the foreign markets using sets and actors during their down-times from filming season 2, but it totally failed as Netflix nether wanted it at CBS's crazy original price ($40 million for 4 13-minute episodes!?!?) nor after their desperate, pathetic reductions in price. The head honchos at CBS are very very concerned about the high cost and low ratings of Discovery.
You are probably right, but it could have been managed better. They were probably looking at the big jump in movie revenue between the Next Generation movies and the Kelvin-timeline Star Treks and thought that keeping that new movie emphasis on hyper-visual stimulus, the singular over the collective, and the impulsive over the political would also increase the audience. They didn't understand the difference between the movie goer and the television viewer. To get someone viewing for months on end, to get someone paying for months on end means creating some sort of investment in the viewer and this show do a poor job of creating that feeling. I mean, it spent most of the season lying to the audience about what it was about. Star Trek is one of CBS's biggest (if not biggest) properties and they really needed it to succeed to help launch their streaming service, and it failed to do that pretty badly. They are getting (best guesses here, as they don't release numbers) like a third of Enterprise's audience in the US and worse overseas. This has a big impact on their business.

I'm debating if I have the willpower to wait until May to binge the season along with Gotham and GoD's final seasons.
I honestly thought this would be dismissed right away, but it's still going on. In fact, the judge ruled against summary dismissal and ordered discovery to take place. Round one to the little guy.
CBS is milking ST for all they can and that worries me. This is what they've confirmed for shows on their streaming service... "Discovery" Untitled Picard Series "Lower Decks" (the animated series) Unnamed Kids Animated Series and now the newly announced... Georgiou/Section 31 series.
Section 31 are bad guys. Georgiou is a bad guy. And I mean the worst possible kind of bad guys. The Federation eventually were able to negotiate with the Klingons and the Romulans and the Dominion, but Section 31 and Georgiou are both fundamentally opposed to the very essence of the Federation. There is no negotiation here. Having them as protagonists will inevitably make them and their cause look sensible. The only bright spot I see in this is that both have different goals and are using each other. There might be some interest in seeing them repeatedly stab each other in the back.
I don’t think I will ever be able to enjoy Discovery. The season premiere did nothing for me, it was filled with cliched writing. I want to like this show, they just make it so hard to like.
Yeah, I watched the season premiere and then two episodes of "The Punisher" season two back-to-back and it's amazing how much of an easier watch the Frank Castle show is.
The season premiere wasn't too bad, I suppose. Hopefully things will slow down a bit and stabilize once Number One shows up. In any case, don't forget that as stated earlier, this season's first 5-6 episodes were co-written by the previous showrunners before they were fired (even though the season premiere was directed by, ironically enough, Alex Kurtzman), so it'll only be by midseason or so before we begin to see the effects (whether positively, negatively or pretty much the same) of Kurtzman's and Heather Kadin's showrunning. -G
